  • You know what's the common thing all your examples have in common. They're run by Google. They've been doing this anticompetitive thing for years, deliberately slowing their sites on non chromium browsers, and the senators are turning a blind eye on the same thing that made Bill Gates shit his pants 20 years ago.

  • The migration off of Twitter and reddit only happens when the site deliberately put barriers to people's experiences, like killing 3pa and limiting how much post you can read. The privacy matters don't figure much.

  • Used to have nginx point the default location to an abyss web server, but I didn't carry the setup forward when I upgraded the OS. It's a 503 now.

Several other locations are pointing to:

    • my homebrewed file server. Initially to replace abtssws's piss poor directory listing performance, but now a frankensteinian being that has a comic reader of my own build, specs, and preference.
    • an icecast server streaming whatever my foobar2k is playing, so I can listen to my library on the go.
  • It exists! It gets triggered when you start typing exclamation mark followed by a few characters. A long popup list appeared with communities your home instant knows of.

And this is with the stock web ui. If you're using an app then it's up to the developer of that app.

  • You have broken out of the algorithmic chains that has tied up your attention and time to literal prolefeed. And it starts when you chose to abandon Reddit and go out of your way to join a Lemmy instance (often cited as the biggest barrier of entry: to choose an instance) so congrats! 😀
