The 2GB of RAM are really the bottleneck. I have a few other Snapdragon 800 / 801 phones like the Galaxy Note 3, LG G3, OG Oneplus and those 3GB make a world of difference.
What?! Pixels have dummy thick padding everywhere. Look at the Quicksettings or the Settings menu. The only thing is that asian Android skins actually uses your phones color screen properly instead of the drab washed out colors you get in the Pixel UI.
I went to school right at the time where Smartphones become popular and at the beginning most either had no phone or a basic featurephone and in the end almost everyone had a smartphone. And I think the impact was very minimal. School sucked regardless. People were bullied regardless. Some had really short attention spans regardless.
The iPad always made 100% sense to me. The first Smartphones were fun and just joyful to use for simple Tasks. A lot of stuff was managed at a system level and Apps and games at the time were genuinely made very well and were great to play / use. Also keep in mind that at the times phones were at best 4". So getting the same experience on a much bigger screen always made sense to me.
Its only now that people try to use these things as a laptop replacement where they fall apart. But i.m.o. that was never the point and people got gaslit by marketing to believe that using a tablet as laptop replacement is viable.
Thats a big oof. Imagine buying this thing, going into the Appstore and not even finding YouTube and Spotify! Would immediately dampen my mood.
This feels a bit like Smartwatches (Android Wear and Apple Watch) all over again for me. Where already at launch the third party "App" selection was really underwhelming with Major Apps like Youtube, Spotify, ... absent and it never getting much better.
But I get it. Apple always talks a big game about how much they love developers and how awesome they are but in reality they treat them like shit. Now Apple needs them and they give Apple this middle finger. Rightfully so!
Yeah it was the time where all these manufacturers were pushing each other. A few months earlier the LG G3 was the first mainstream 1440p Phone and not even 2 years earlier HTC released the first 1080p phone.
100% this. The Note 4 from 2014 has a higher resolution Display than the S24 and if you go by Pixels per Inch it even beats the S24 Ultra! Not that Resolution is the most important thing ever but still just crazy they only went backwards from the S6 onwards in that regard.
Its this shift in mentality that I despise. From "how much tech CAN we put in" to "how much tech do WE NEED to put in". Clearly Samsung's phone devision is being run by bunch of beancounters instead of tech enthusiasts.
Same things make us laugh, make us cry.
