  • I've mostly left social media and replaced it with RSS feeds of a couple of news outlets that I trust for good AND non-depressing news coverage (can't really recommend them as they are in French; in English I just have a couple of "extra sources" for LGBT & sports topics).

It's been wonderful to finish the list and not have anything left to read. No more doomscrolling! It's great!

  • Good explanation.

If I remember correctly they defederated from lemmy.world and sh.itjust.works because they were two huge and largely unmoderated instances but did say that they'd like to refederate if solid moderation was put in place.

The SIJW admin and them had talks and agreed that they'd refederate when Lemmy would have decent moderation tools that allowed for that, which hasn't happened yet.

    • Choose train over plane whenever possible, especially in Europe
    • If you have to take the plane, avoid luggage if you can, you'll save a bunch of time (and money on some airlines too)
    • https://rome2rio.com is a great website to find itineraries
    • Bring an extra pair of socks and underwear
    • Leave some free time and allow yourself to get lost in a city you're visiting, it's a great way to find new places off the beaten path
    • Always have your water bottle handy
  • Hiya! I just visited this community (!wetshaving@sub.wetshaving.social) and wanted to point out that the daily threads on a tiny community make up more noise than valuable content. The active threads are 100 % bot-generated prompts with 0 replies, which is very discouraging. I'd recommend having at most one per week, and otherwise trying to fill the community with information or questions rather than megathreads like these :)

  • Oh sorry yes that sounded way too ominous without context

A couple of years back, Framasoft decided to get rid of all the projects that aren't their core activity, keeping stuff like Mobilizon and Peertube for instance. I think they might have gotten rid of their publishing house as part of this restructuring.

  • For self publishing there's really no difference.

I believe framasoft used to have a publishing house for CC-BY books but they might have shut it down during the great purge of two years ago.

  • It's not supposed to be. It doesn't jam endless recommendations in your feed once you've gotten at the end of the new, fresh content. I feel like it's a feature, not a bug, to have platforms that don't optimise for time spent on them, because they don't need our attention to show us ads.
