  • That shit started with win2k/winme already. That's when the borders of controls were made thinner, icons were made with less contrast and the first flat buttons that only show their border on hover were being used. So it's quite some time already that this is going downhill.

(tbf, I think the flat buttons were mostly intended for toolbars, but still, style won over function)

  • That last sentence pisses me off:

White phosphorus is considered an incendiary weapon under Protocol III of the Convention on the Prohibition of Use of Certain Conventional Weapons. The protocol prohibits using incendiary weapons against military targets located among civilians, although Israel has not signed it and is not bound by it.

Why the fuck do we give them any military support then? If their reason is true ("we need help to defend ourselves"), there is no reason why they couldn't sign a fucking protocol for minimizing casualties.

  • I criticized your chosen abstraction. "go there talk to somebody and come back" is basically the definition of most interactions. That describes "going shopping", "going to work", "going to a customer" and in extension describes almost every quest in every game. That discriminates nothing of value.

  • I completely missed the Wiki 🤦‍♂️. Sorry for the redundant questions.

I am actually not that much concerned with general OS updates - as you say, those systems are not heavily used and more or less isolated. BUT they are still used for web browsing. So the browser should be patched as good as possible.

I'll give SpiralLinux a try in a VM to get a feeling for it. Maybe paired with the automatic update daemon I could then forget about the PC(s) in question for the next few years until a major version change is necessary (which then hopefully can be done remote as per your Wiki page).

  • Do you consider SpiralLinux something I could throw on my grandma's computer and she will be fine for the next 5 years? (when Bookworm runs out of updates)

Will updates be installed automatically or will the potential user have to know a little bit what they are doing?

What about upgrades? Once the current Debian release is EOL, how easy will it be to jump to the next one?

    Thanks for your efforts!

  • Isn't there a physical limit to solving this problem? For me the problem is typically, that the water in the hot pipe has cooled down, so the first few seconds/half a minute it slowly rises in temperature until finally the pump of the boiler sets in to pump actually hot water back into the system. Only then can I reliably find a temperature mix that stays stable.

  • It depends on what you were raised with. For me I have all these relevant points in my head for C. 25 is nice, under 20 you slowly need to dress longer stuff. Over 30 is hot, over 40 sucks hard, over 50 can become deadly soon. Body temp is around 37.
