  • To add to this, you might as well set up a VPN at the router level for your entire house because Google's whole business model is surveillance and advertisements, so they're 100% going to collect all of the data coming and going.

  • That's a pain in the ass. Especially because they'll have to mail it, she'll have to set it up, then if she decides she doesn't want it, format it and Mail it back and then go buy another one. Isn't there an easier way to just hold one for a couple of minutes?

  • You shouldn't be forced to be anonymous. If you want to pick the same username, you should be able to. But even so, there's still a required number at the end. So unless your username elsewhere ends in 2 digits and isn't already taken, then you can't pick it anyway

  • Proton Mail is great. Can't compare to fastmail because I've never used it. But I enjoy being a paying customer instead of an advertising target and I use every product in their suite. Happy to answer more specific questions

  • You could try talking to your phone company about it. My wife had a problem where someone was spoofing her number to make the spam calls. So she'd get call backs from old ladies asking her who she is and what she wanted. But T-mobile shut down her number for like 24 hours, which was inconvenient for a day, but when it came back on the problem was resolved.

  • “There is no technological or security justification for Apple mandating the use of iCloud for Restricted Files,” the lawsuit reads.

Wouldn't this argument also be true for everything else Apple restricts you from doing? Texting app, browser, Apple music on a home pod, etc? (I don't have a lot of good examples because I don't have an i thing but I'm sure there are more)

  • I use a VPN and it's on a kill switch, so if it gets disconnected for whatever reason, the machine can't reach the internet at all.

I can't imagine why a private tracker would disallow you from using a VPN
