I'm curious, are these hallucinations very prevalent? I'm outside under US so haven't seen the feature yet. But I have noticed that practically every article references the same glue incident.

So I'm not sure if the hallucinations are happening all the time, or everyone is just jumping on a handful of mistakes the AI made. If the latter, the situation reminds me of how every single accident involving a Tesla was reported on back in the day.

An old manager of mine's backup solution was a cronjob that appended .old to every file then made a copy of the most recent one. So he had: file, file.old, file.old.old, file.old.old.old, ...

I can think of a couple examples, like leaving the boot loader unlocked on their pixel phones. You might be right though.

Google's too smart for that. They know there's a big backlash against AI in the tech savvy crowd and that it's bleeding users to competitors. So they offer this escape valve that they know the techies will easily find and use, but which 99% of the population will never even look for. This way they can still push AI on almost everyone while at the same time retain as many disgruntled techies as they can.

Not disagreeing with the sentiment.. But how is this Reddit's fault? This is entirely on Google.

The problem is this relies on the people who make stuff making a huge sacrifice on behalf of everyone else. This won't change until everyone else is willing to at least match what rich people can offer to people who make stuff. Unfortunately everyone else are not willing to match this unless people who make stuff can offer a product of equivalent value. Making a product of equivalent value takes time, which gives rich people ample opportunity to offer more than everyone else is willing to.

This argument is such bullshit. As if Microsoft doesn't know there exist jobs that are entirely "the boring bits".

Eh, that would kill the steam deck though and then developers wouldn't be testing their games out with it nearly as much. Sure proton would still exist in some capacity but it would be way shittier.

I guess I just find a closed chassis more sleek or futuristic? I fully admit this is pretty dumb and it's definitely not a significant factor in my phone purchasing decisions.

Fwiw I'm not American either. But like I said, I hate cords of any kind. I'd probably buy a phone without a USB port if not for the fact I occasionally need to charge at other people's houses :p

I don't defend manufacturers that do this or anything, but personally I hate cords and want to go wireless for everything. Of course a headphone jack doesn't prevent me from doing that, but given the choice of two identical phones except for a 3.5mm jack, I'm choosing the one without.

Somehow it's steam deck verified but opening the virtual keyboard to input character name reliably crashes. Can't even get past the intro.
