Honestly, the things that made me start to like it again was Below Decks, because it was different and fun and animated, sure, but what made me like Star Trek again was the moments of optimism and niceness that were in the show. Sometimes it was as a joke where you think something is going to be bad and it turned out fine, which is fine, but if reminded me of the thing that separates Star Trek from other shows is that it has this sense of optimism. Optimism for the future, that things are going to be ok, and humanity will get it's act together and live up to our own ideals.

The edgy remakes don't feel like that.

So then the question is, what should the flag represent, the people or the ideals? If it's the ideals, then some real shitheads are trying to steal your flag.

The greatest lie the Right ever told that the Left bought hook line and sinker was that they were the ones who represented America.

The thing is, while the US has it's horrible history and present, the people who fought for the ideals we're supposed to have are also just as much American as any conservative asshole. MLK Jr was American. Frederick Douglass was American. John Brown was American. Mister Rogers was American. Abolitionists. Suffragists. Union fighters. People fighting for fixing the problems, righting the wrongs, holding our country accountable for it's own ideals, are just as much a part of that flag.

The assholes laid claim to that flag and the people who are aware of the problems, who have legitimate concerns with the bullshit this country has done and continues to do, accidentally let them.

I don't think single party technically would cover that. The neighbors would have to be involved in the interaction to give themselves permission to record it.

Ok so since there's a bunch of science nerds on here and I'm sleep deprived I'm gonna ask my dumb ftl question.

If you're on a train and you walk towards the front of the train, your speed measured from outside of the train is the speed of the train (T) plus the speed of you walking (W).

So if there was a train inside of that train, and you walked inside of that, you'd go the speed of the outside train, plus the speed of the inside train, plus your own walking speed.

So what if we had a Russian nesting doll of trains, so that the inner most train was, from the outside, going as fast as light and you walked towards the front? Wouldn't you be going faster than light if you measured your speed from the outside?

Didn't come at me with how hard it would be to build a Russian nesting doll of super trains it's a hypothetical and I'm tired.

You can definitely die in New Vegas. Like, a lot. Just try taking the shortcut instead of the long way around your next playthrough.

Scribblenauts. Not my favorite series but with the ability to summon basically anything I want forever I could be essentially a god.

Well, I grew up doing medieval reenactment so my crossbow experience was from about the 4th grade, so there's that.

My hand immediately shot up. "What are you talking about? Of course they did."

My elderly history teacher replied "no, they didn't."

Me "Why do you think that?"

Her "because crossbows fire in a straight line so they would just shoot over the castle."

I looked at my classmates, hoping they would see how insane this is. They were looking at me like I grew a second head.

Me "that's not true. At all."

Her, getting slightly annoyed, "how do you know?"

Me "well for one, I've fired a crossbow, I know how they work. For two, they had GRAVITY BACK THEN, the bolt comes back down!"

Her, and some of the class "ooooh!"

...

Her "well anyway...." And continues the lesson.

This was a college class.
