  • I don't get why anyone who was a member of the "tea party" would be in any way a fan of self-proclaimed "tariff man", but the rank and file idiots did see attacking their own government to install a dictator as being "1776"-like. So, I guess they're just fucking stupid and can be taken for a ride under the absolute thinnest of pretenses.

  • Having easy access to guns is just objectively stupid.

No you don't get it, since we cannot eliminate all dangerous things that could injure or kill people the only option we have is to not even attempt to control any dangerous things that are currently killing and injuring people. /s

  • Sure and I don't disagree there, just wanted to clarify that it's not some immutable property of corporations or governments that governments cannot destroy corporations. Corporations are a legal fiction that a properly empowered government could revoke the charter of where appropriate. I believe I've heard it called the "corporate death penalty" and if I were king I'd be doing it to a number of repeat offenders immediately.

There are of course some human consequences for taking drastic action against corporations. But in many cases -- surely more than the 0% of the time the government does it -- the good outweighs the bad.

  • A lot of it has to do with media framing of the issues.

Much of our news media writes headlines like "Republicans claim Democrats are responsible for X".

There's often just no looking into what's true at all. It's a simple parroting of claims. It means winning the argument simply requires being the loudest ass with the most claims recorded in public.

  • But again, why should most of us waste our time when we’re almost never troubled by time zone changes?

But won't you think of the poor developers who have to occasionally write software that handles local times?!

(Or the poor international business person who has to coordinate virtual meetings around the globe?!?)
