Nothing inherent about modern software makes it require updates. You only need to update software regularly if it has external connectivity so you can patch vulnerabilities, and forcing that on people is just an excuse to force "feature" updates that include lots of bloat and spyware. It should be illegal to make connectivity mandatory.
Ugh, I hate when people use Python for that. It makes the application slow and power-hungry. The Matrix backend is a great case to look at for why Python shouldn't be used for more than glue and scripting. It's soooooo slow and they're rewriting it in Go now.
Being able to configure exactly how far the jump forward/backward buttons take me individually makes it so much easier to skip sponsorships. Plus, it's just a great app.
Giving to poor people regardless of race includes economic victims of racism. It doesn't matter if you're poor because you or your ancestors experienced racism or if you're poor because of more broad economic oppression and bad luck, it doesn't make you any more or less deserving of help either way.
If you want to fight economic inequality, do it
by lifting up impoverished people regardless of race. There are plenty of poor white people who have never benefitted from preferential treatment. Make public schools good enough to enable those who are financially disadvantaged to have an opportunity to do well academically regardless of their race.
I found this if it's what you mean, but all it mentions tech-wise is that Lemmy is slow to develop. This does make sense, is it what you're referring to?
Yeah, Matrix fucking sucks. The organization scheme is obtuse and confusing, it takes longer to send a message over Matrix than it does to post a comment on Lemmy, and it has those god-awful read indicators that you can't turn off.
Lemmy was written in Rust, while Matrix was written in Python. I can't blame poor design on Python, but I'm sure the poor performance is not a coincidence.
