  • It really is a case of projection, isn’t it?

This reminded me of all the Republican rallying cries against “cancel culture” around removing monuments to not-that-great men and people refusing to spend time on sites whose core values they disagreed with.

And now we’ve moved to these same people removing any reference to actual heroes of history if they happen to have not been successful white heterosexual men.

    Cancel culture indeed.

  • To play devils advocate, there are the same number of 911 operators, and if the police are sent, they’ll most likely end up helping the federal employees in anger.

  • I see most kids under 10 wearing a bicycle helmet. Of course, kids under 10 shouldn’t be riding these, as they’re designed to carry heavier loads.

Anyone 16 or older? It grabs my attention if they ARE wearing a helmet.

  • The first part is the reason for the second part: the alert system isn’t targeted enough so people disable it due to the majority of the alerts being disruptive but not applicable.

  • Yes, they can veto, but others should at least be going on the record and REQUIRING the US to use its veto.

  • This isn’t leaving tech… it’s leaving corporate employment.

Still great options, but I was expecting something more like: pivot to a different role in your existing company and then find another non-corporate use for those skills, or get your apprenticeship in the trades, or become a bus driver.

  • This goes nicely with abortion bans, criminalization of life choices that don’t produce babies, and the disenfranchisement of women.

  • If nothing else pans out in Vancouver, the YWCA isn’t bad.

  • Stupid? They’re achieving exactly what they set out to achieve. The fact that they’re doing it while saying illogical things doesn’t change that.

  • Because people got greedy and felt they could depend on everyone else to keep the safeguards in place, while eroding them for their own unjust gain.

  • What differentiates a dating site from something like Lemmy? The secret matching algorithm?

  • If asked in a vacuum, there’d be no audible answer.

Unless non-verbal communication was used and the participants could hold their breath long enough.

  • If AI literacy requires an individual to be able to clearly explain how AI technologies work… then even data scientists are AI illiterate.

  • Indeed. While most of the time a fin sighting would be harmless, that area is within territory covered by great white sharks. In 2021 a woman swimming at Margaree Island was bitten by a great white that likely mistook her for a seal.

As waters warm, mako and great white sharks have been spending more time close to shore over the past decade.

Just like with any animal at the top of the food chain, it’s better to use caution than to tempt statistics.

  • How many people did they employ to intercept $378k of “mostly ED drug knockoffs”?

It’s good that they blocked unregulated drugs, but it really feels like they missed way more than they found.

  • If it didn’t repel Orban out of office, it still needs some improvement.

  • “This is ICE! Round up all your undocumented day laborers”

“Sir, I’m too busy for that right now. If you and your men can help me pick all these tomatoes, I’ll have time to tell you where they’re all hiding.”

    — 8 hours later —

“Thanks for helping get all the produce in. As you can see, we no longer have any undocumented day laborers, so now we depend on regular ICE raids to keep the farm going. Have a nice day!”
