  • “Don’t give our relationship away until AFTER I’m elected and it’s too late!”

  • At least it’s still a thing. Canada should definitely push WFH legislation that incentivizes businesses to go that direction when it’s an option though.

  • I’ve been on it since the polls began to close and haven’t seen any issues?

  • In BC, the provincial government is pushing both, quite strongly.

  • There was an organized protest campaign run where a whole bunch of people ran in PP’s riding to bring visibility to the mishandling of electoral reform in Canada, specifically around ranked choice voting and proportional representation. Liberals ran on it in 2010 and then failed to do anything other than make a mess of moving away from first past the post .

  • I would find it amusing if the “Independent party” ended up taking Carleton (ie: more voters voted independent than PP).

[edit] Woohoo! Looks like Carleton is likely going to (LPC) Bruce Fanjoy despite the plethora of independents. PP loses his seat!

He’ll probably just replace a CPC somewhere else, but I’d love to see this as a signal that conservative Canadians don’t want populism or fascism.

  • Just so you know, I’m a fellow Voyager user on lemmy.ca and I don’t see that anywhere I’m not a mod.

  • I never said it wasn’t a word; it means bully. But hectored doesn’t mean bullied the way we use that in English—it would mean to create a bully.

  • I wouldn’t. I’d set up at least four groups and let them run autonomously from each other. I might not even let them know that there’s other groups on the planet.

More chance of survival if there’s different groups trying different things. Strength in diversity.

  • Sorry… is hectoring supposed to be heckling? Trump is the hector in this case; he can’t make Canada the hector. When the first non-proper-noun word out of a writer’s keyboard is that far off what they meant, I have difficulty taking anything else they write as anything but regurgitated vaguely understood hearsay.

  • Is it just me that saw the picture and the first thing I noticed were the big X logos?

  • “Factory workers ’on average’ earn 1.9x minimum wage.”

Average is a silly thing to use here. That means the factory owners are making bank while the labourers are making minimum wages for their country — and in some countries, minimum wages is $0.

If they used the median instead, or compared against cost of living, we’d see different numbers.

  • Sounds like nobody thought it was premeditated though; supposedly the guy was already known to the police and has a history with mental health issues.

  • That’s impressive, considering he wasn’t even alive 80 years ago.

  • Indeed. I know kids in my area know about “54.40 or fight” and the war of pigs, among other bits of history. In school mock elections, the results in my area seem to be leaning heavily NDP.

  • What gun will provide home defense against an ICE SWAT team? Seems to me that a gun in this situation means someone you care about will get seriously injured or die. And/or go to jail for murder.

Makes me think investing in a Halon fire suppression system could be useful. Along with gas masks for everyone.

  • This is useful in removing the “but I didn’t know!” excuse. He’s now been told, publicly.

This should be done for every member of the current administration who has attended a school of higher learning.

  • I currently do this via self-hosted NextCloud for larger and encrypted IMs for smaller files.

  • You missed “make my computer work” and “get me movies for free”.
