  • At the height of PDA popularity the average person had a separate device for their phone calls. Generally speaking a PDA in 2000 I would consider a portable handheld device with a stylus but didn't have telephony capabilities.

Today a personal digital assistant the lines have been blurred.

  • I remember being so happy going into Comp-USA and seeing so many different gadgets that I wanted to buy. It might have been 2000 when I bought my Palm PDA but they had been on the decline a little bit by then. I never hot my $300 out of it that's for sure.

Regarding Raspberry Pi gonna see if there is a community for it on Lemmy. Maybe that would be part of the Linux discussion.

  • Was, is and continues to be giving a shit about people that inertia has a strong foothold upon. Trying to help and communicate with others that their idea of a conversation is two word retorts.

Someone that in a workplace environment and say your job is packaging and 30 years ago there may be a little friendly banter sporadically throughout the shift. Now a sizeable segment of the working crowd will just wear headphones all day. Someone that has little situational awareness of doing a small task that helps the greater good of the group instead is eagerly awaiting the next episode of their favorite online video.

People now use all kinds of crutches why they cannot do something.

"I have social anxiety." "I need a mental day off."

Waiting to asked/told to do something rather then being AWARE, PRESENT, & ENGAGED.

And on the rare chance that one may initiate a convo there is a high likelihood that this individual needs a favor from you or something.

I realize our world is in a hyper-chaotic state and as my Dad would say, "going to hell in a hand basket but dang this communication deficit is making the experience even shittier when you'd think it couldn't get any worse.

This has been my experience and have heard from several others who have had a very similar experience.

  • Most of the people that I know who have Iphones do for family chat or teens and college age because everyone in their circle does.

But IPhone owners have no call to be looking down on android users.

Some of the greatest apps, PowerAmp and Photo Studio Pro do not have iPhone versions. Also IPhone runs behind Samsung in innovation. I mean IPhone finally added widgets but the functionality on IPhone pales in comparison to Android.

Also can't change defaults in IPhone for launcher, music, dialer, and pretty much everything except, browser, and email.

I could never own an IPhone because they think they know best for users. With Android I have autonomy over my device.

Some areas of this country do not get reliable cell signal that is where an FM tuner can still receive emergency alerts but no not IPhone because they disallow their customer base from having and essentially force their power users to utilize their cloud services because once again they fail to offer expandable storage as an option. Shaping their own market but it essentially is anti consumer.

Despite these things Apple is relatively successful with these business decisions (especially in the US) but Samsung Ultra has eclipsed the IPhone Pro with the 23 version and IOS is still playing catch up with Android.

  • It doesn't look there are ads in app that is why I was surprised . I wish I had taken a screenshot. It came up twice initially but when I tried to recreate its appearance it will no longer show. 🧐

  • So true but the game changers are on the way Boost for Lemmy, Sync, and I think one I am missing. Hundreds of thousands if not several million potential Fediverse users .

These apps asked for preregistration for their upcoming Lemmy versions and some users may be maintaining Reddit until their app is ready . Some I am sure signed up for Lemmy, KBin, etc.and were discouraged and stayed with Reddit.

I am almost certain over the the next several months the user base will increase but will it increase enough to get decent engagement levels on more of the niche communities.

That is the sizeable advantage has at the moment.

  • Probably so. But then why are Android and Android Apps struggling for engagement? But more randoms, casuals, just a wider overall demographic will be needed for niche communities to become viable.

The communities I mainly communicated in on Reddit either don't exist, or have paltry engagement here.

This is why I am keeping my Reddit account active to make posts in these forums to invite others over here to build engagement.
