  • And to clarify to you specifically and the three-ish people that upvoted me, on a weekly basis he helps a 40 year old dude with multiple sclerosis do history homework, and they were covering the second world war. He read the Wikipedia of fascism, and he literally said that he had no idea it was a right wing ideology.

What can I glean from that? I have no fucking clue. Fuck Nazis, fuck republicans. I can only hope that there is a large group of people voting conservative who dont understand the consequence of this next election. Because if you're right than like 40% of the country are bigots, and even if the Democrats win, we're *still fast tracking to collapse

  • That's very not true. And it's honestly scarier. I work about ten minutes from Trump's first assassination attempt.

My boss is a good Christian who didn't know that fascism is a far right ideology.

They're in their own echo chamber, just like we are. They just don't understand that their echo chamber leads to a Hitler 2.0.

  • Ugh. Yeah I've heard that "it isn't the best. It was the easiest to sign up for when the reddit exodus happened. I'm anti Israel and pro Ukraine and I'm always busy with real life/my own hobbies. I just don't have the bandwidth for finding the best instance. C

  • Java was my first language over ten years ago. I haven't touched it in a decade (I'm mostly a hobbyist). I am grateful that I had to type all that shit out, and grateful that I don't have to anymore (I've been using python since then).

I just recently helped a younger friend with their Java homework. I had to Google the syntax, but otherwise helped them ace it. I've mostly used Python since then, but learning java gave me such a good base of the fundamentals

  • You know that you dont have to pay for a Windows license right? You can permanently activate it (and any version of office) with a script. I found some article a while ago talking about it, some official Microsoft tech support used it because they were frustrated with Windows, so it's legit

I do computer repair/tech support for just a small business. I haven't used Windows on a a personal machine in a looong time, but that script helps me when I get stuck at work

  • Maybe you could sync the file with Syncthing or Nextcloud. And sqlite is the default android db type... I'm tempted to give it a shot, I just started looking for a solid self hosted note taking thing

  • Don't touch it! I've been working at a repair shop for a while, leave it unplugged and write down the pin.

If you want more specific advice, let me know the model of the phone. Most phones should power on if the battery is removed and it's plugged in. I can talk you through data recovery if you want
