  • We'll have to see what Blinken can do about it. He said he has a high confidence Israel will agree to the deal if Hamas does. I'm interested to see if the US can apply enough pressure to get a ceasefire in place.

  • Yes, very exciting news. Now we need to make sure Israel keeps their side of the agreement.

  • I thought this story was interesting. Especially the messages about how the taking of civilian hostages should not have happened. We don't often get a glimpse into the mind of Hamas leadership like this. It can be hard to know what's intentional and what's not. You said the dying isn't exactly news, which is why I haven't been posting about that.

  • UPDATE: Hamas accepts UN ceasefire resolution, ready to negotiate over details, official says

Hamas accepts a UN Security Council ceasefire resolution and is ready to negotiate over the details, senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri told Reuters on Tuesday, adding that it was up to Washington to ensure that Israel abides by it.

Hamas accepts the UN security council resolution in regard to the ceasefire, withdrawal of Israeli troops and swap of hostages for detainees held by Israel, he said.

"The U.S. administration is facing a real test to carry out its commitments in compelling the occupation to immediately end the war in an implementation of the UN Security Council resolution," Abu Zuhri said.

  • It is said that after a long life, Canadians yearn for the Earthly Paradise of Valinor. I assume that's somewhere in Scotland.

  • The Fiat 500e's battery weighs 295kg.

  • 150km of range usually requires about 200kg of lithium ion batteries. More for larger vehicles.

What's wrong with charging? At 350KW you can get 150km of range in 5 minutes.

  • I don't think the DNC will be able to stop her. They can only do so much. I was a huge Bernie fan, volunteered at rallies and everything, but even I can acknowledge that the support was not quite strong enough to overcome the establishment headwind. He came close twice, but I think there were a number of people who wrote him off over his age and whatnot.

I think AOC could tip the scales, she's young and smart and has real conviction. She has all the Bernie benefits with none of the baggage.

  • Any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the Galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through and still know where his towel is, is clearly a man to be reckoned with.

  • I would love to vote for AOC. She will be old enough to run next year, but it will be four years before the next election.

  • Tankie has been a pretty common phrase at least since I was in college. I thought they were the folks who carried water for authoritians like Mao and Stalin. It's more specific than 'woke' or even 'liberal', in my experience it's more akin to calling someone maga or antivax; it confers specific positions. I've had friends who proudly identified with the term. Unless it's changed in meaning recently and I didn't get the memo.

  • Socialist and Communist, sure. But what politicians have been called tankies? I thought tankies were a specific type of communist.

  • There's a couple thousand in China for Nio, but they haven't really taken off anywhere else.

By contrast there's over 1.8 million public EV chargers in China alone.

Batteries are heavy, which makes them hard to move and requires secure attachment to the vehicle. EV chargers have no moving parts and require much less maintenance.

  • Swappable batteries are a giant headache, charging is better.

Batteries are lasting longer and longer, LFP are already able to last 20 times as long as typical lithium ion, while using less cobalt.

Modern EV tech is still relatively new. It took combustion cars a long time to get to present day longevity and efficiency. EVs will catch up.

  • It's expected for HDR to mature on Linux later this year. I'll send you an update in December.
