  • aur is limited to arch based distros only

And rpms are for redhat tree, so ?

    OP said

None of the above. Native debs/rpms/whatever for desktops, docker images for servers.

Your example package is readily available in my distro in native was my point. If your distro doesn't have it then maybe you need to change distros.

  • I'm in the UK, whatsapp is ubiquitous and unavoidable as hard as I try. I made a big effort to get people onto Signal but got limited traction and once they killed the sms support those I'd converted ditched it. Viber is dead, no one uses it or threema.

  • It has been a decade since I did the intellectual property law subject which I've never since used BUT if there are a) multiple holders of the trademark and b) none of them have used it in any real way then the company formerly known as twitter is free and clear. If I am not mistaken the key tests for upholding a trademark are that it uniquely identifies a business which is known in the market place. Also known as "use it or lose it".

This is not legal advice, do not rely it on, particularly as I only got a credit for that subject.

  • EV Percentage of total vehicles sales has been rising each year for the past 10 years. Exact number varies country to country but for most western countries it is now between 10 and 20% of sales per annum (obviously 100% in Norway).

Vehicle fleet turns over about every 15 years in Western nations (give or take depending on country) i.e around 90-95% of cars are less than 15 years old (there will always be very old collectors cars, but that's an entirely different ball game).

So in 7 years time unless EV sales suddenly plummet, at the very least 20% of used cars sales will be EVs. However EV cars are tracking perfectly to S curve of new technology take up (very small number to start then it explodes). So there is every reason to suspect that today's 20% of sales will be significantly higher. In fact it is expected that they will be the vast majority of new sales in most western countries, particularly those like the UK who are banning NEW ICE sales from 2030. Note that's not banning the sale of second hand ICE.

There will therefore be a reasonably large number of second hand EVs, an even larger number of hybrid PHEVs (as a lot of those have been sold over the past 5 years) and there will be an even larger number of very very low cost ICE vehicles as people exit the technology.

People will buy what makes sense for them.

  • You really think people will stop trading in their cars after 3 years to get the latest model ? I sincerely doubt it. Rolling over the lease is built into the finance model (it's not financially smart but that's a different discussion).

  • On Mint go with the apps in the store. This OS is often recommended to beginners for two reasons 1. The familiar interface and 2. Stability.

You'll have less grief with store apps, and they're usually foss anyway. Flatpak apps are fine but can collectively get a bit disk and ram hungry. Either version will work fine though

  • Good.

Stealerships have been raping and pillaging for years. The sooner they go the way of buggy whip makers the better.

And before you ask: Direct purchase from manufacturers and licensed service centers is a much better model, if we can't have that then manufacturer direct service.

  • The wheels tend to fall off on basic vehicles ? I hope you're joking.

Btw the BZ4X isn't priced like a basic vehicle -$42k++ isn't exactly entry level and the same price range as a Mustang Mach E, low end Tesla Model 3 or VW id3 with much better spec

  • Legally they have to "declare" a recall, even when they can fix it with a couple of lines of code and an OTA. Recall doesn't mean what you would expect it to me, it means "something the manufacturer needs to fix for safety reasons".

Hence why 98% of Tesla recalls are OTA (not actual stat, I'd have to look it up but it's definitely in the 90s)

  • Your odds of getting caught are extremely low, but if you are you will be deported and have your visa cancelled (as an Aussie our border guards really do suck I'm sorry). I genuinely wouldn't risk if it you're moving here. If it was just a holiday and you didn't care too much about getting banned then sure, but definitely not worth risking a work visa on.

The lowest risk way is to put it on a cloud drive and download it on arrival in Oz.
