  • As far as I'm concerned she hasn't won until she's sworn in. And that's the approach people need to take. I agree with convincing Democrats to get their shit together, but this thought train of "I'm not even gonna vote, it's already won/it doesn't matter" is exactly the kind of shit that gets us in trouble. Get out there and vote. It's your fucking responsibility as a citizen of this country. Do it.

  • No. No. Absolutely not no. I don't care if youre a Democrat in the middle of rural Kansas. Get the fuck out there and vote. This kind of defeatist shit is exactly what lets those locked in areas get away with it. A revolution has to have attendees. Show up. Vote. Even if you feel like you're voting alone, you're not.

  • You're delusional if you think renting is "cheaper" than owning. Sure you don't pay those piddly expenses when you're renting, but with your own home you're building equity and with rent prices how they are you can still save money on top of house repairs better than renting

  • Not only that, but the superhero bit is getting played out. Comics can have some real depth (and some real dumb stuff) but I feel like they haven't done much besides the usual "not hero, gets powers, struggles with bad guy, understands powers, beats bad guy, happy ending, sequel teaser".

They need to mix it up. Gimme a superhero crime drama, a romance novel, a true comedy not just quips, etc. They have a whole universe and years of content to draw from and they keep telling the same story over and over.

  • Technically they don't gain money no, but they get:

    1. To move or dispose of product, making sales look better
    2. Free marketing, both in people having the drinks and to say "look we did a charity"
    3. To pay their taxes with effectively free money, because they take the product that they made for pennies, and count it as a "donation" at full price. Meaning that all the "profit" they would have made on markup goes straight to paying the taxes instead of making the money and paying taxes on the money they already made.

It's why a company donating their product is always better for them than a regular person donating cash. They are effectively still making money it's just this time they are making money specifically to pay off their taxes.

  • This is why people need to get out and vote. Nearly every election where Dems had over 60% turnout they have won. Reps never have changes in turnout and I think they have around 65-70% usually? All people need to do is get out and vote and these people lose their edge

  • Not to mention a lot of eggs in one basket. They've built in a lot more redundancies now yeah, but all it takes is a hit to AWS and a shitload of the internet is just DOA. Yeah you can argue about protections and data centers or whatever, but still. It's one big nest in control of one company, no matter how well they guard it, it's still a risk, technical, ethical, or whatever.

  • The old in Japan have that problem. There have been other studies that have shown that you get people have significantly less problems with it. Japan has always been insular, but their politics and older age groups have always been more stagnant and less accepting.

Basically, don't throw the whole country under the bus when it's just the old farts that don't want things to change.

  • I don't sympathize with this dudes rhetoric at all, just adding that from his mouth movements he does seem to be making an "m" sound not an "n" sound with his mouth.

He's probably still really racist, but I've got racist family and if they ever decide to drop a "hard r" you can see it in their face. I do think it was a case of trying to say "immigrants", flubbing it, then just saying "migrants" because he realizes what it sounds like. Even the forced laughter afterwards has a sort of "oh shit that didn't sound good" vibe to it.

Again, not defending this guy. But we have to remember, all sides of politics can spin stuff to fit their agenda, so we have to be discreet in our decisions and judgements, that's how we stand apart from all the people just sucking down the news as gospel truth.

  • Also sounds like you had a crappy realtor. If you're using a realtor, get them to work for you, that's what they're for. Give them the specs of the house you're looking for, sure, but they should be calling you with listings, vetting the homes before they show them to you, handling negotiation relays and inspection setups, etc.

Just general advice, yes you pay them, but if they aren't working for you, pay someone else.

  • The thing I tell people is that as a parent, you are going to put maybe a few hours into blocking them from getting to stuff. They are then going to spend as much time as they want trying to get through it. You can dig through concrete with a spoon if you're patient enough.

Educate them, and give them access when they're responsible enough

  • Sounds perfectly normal for a construction/install team to me. "Maritime...doesn't that mean like ocean or something?" "Hey the drawing says install it so I'm installing it." "...yeah fair enough."

  • I mean it was already overpriced for what it was, and it was only really good/popular during covid. A lot of people now will either go to the gym for classes or just get a bike without a $12-$49 monthly fee. I just can't wait to see how long until they lock the wheels without a subscription

  • If the GOP continue on the path they're on eventually (hopefully) the Dems can win in a landslide and open up for another party to beat them. Right now we are still stuck with the two because potentially splitting the Dems is too much of a risk
