  • Well, that's your problem. sub?id is what defines which uids and gids are available to a user for purposes of making user namespaces. It's strange that those files don't already exist; useradd should create them automatically. What distro are you using?

Regardless, you can create those files yourself. Here's a line from subuid my machine: administrator:100000:65536. The first field is the username (you can also use a uid), the second is the starting uid for the block of uids, and the third field is the number of uids in that block. So uids from 100000-165535 (inclusive) are allocated to the user administrator.

See https://www.man7.org/linux/man-pages/man7/user_namespaces.7.html and https://man7.org/linux/man-pages/man5/subuid.5.html for more details.

  • People's emotional well-being is arguably more important than their financial well-being. The latter's value is in supporting the former (along with basic physical needs, which in this case seem to be taken care of). So yeah, taking some time to consider how a financial donation might impact someone's feelings is worth it.

  • I live in Minnesota, my parents live in Florida, and I have a friend who used to live in SK. I could make fun of my parents for what they thought was cold; he could make fun of me for what I thought was cold. Don't know how you do it.

  • We've had some highs in the single digit negative (F). I'm lucky enough that I can just stay in. This isn't terribly unusual weather for this time of year. The rest of this season has been so warm it feels like a bigger deal than it is.

  • I got a Pixel 5a refurbished because it's supported by LineageOS. Like a week after buying it I dropped it, cracking the screen. Got on iFixit, ordered a replacement screen, and once it got here spent an evening installing it. No regrets. But I am a fool, so that tracks.

My next phone will be a Fairphone now that they work with US carriers, though.
