  • They keep filtering the stupid people, but there's always more.

I keep wondering what zuck has to do to be more obvious, but it seems like an infinite horizon to someone whe never signed up for any meta product.

Also, soft switches don't really turn things off. Physical covers over cameras, mics, and speakers can't be overridden.

  • Thank you for that additional info. I'm highly intrigued with this because vehicles would "refuel" in a familiar way, and there could be a choice to also plugin recharge if someone had their own facilities, at home or work.

It might be the bridge needed to entice more conversions, and might improve with experience and time, much as ICE have done since the Model T.

  • Apropos of nothing, I'd like to see a mod done to the fediverse... Each user keeps their own info pod, and fedi sites can use that to populate profiles.

Migration is the largest hurdle in the fedi for users, instances change/shut down/federate with Meta without warning, etc.

Would be great to have one's info on one's own drives, go to other mastodon site that didn't e.g. manipulate its users into being on Meta and just plug in.

Images could also be stored this way, so copyright and provenance is straightforward. When user moves, so does all that.

Then a lemmy, (x)bin, piefed instance becomes just a place to park and not a captive zoo.

I think that the fediverse should offer a compelling improvement over commercial SM,: For me self-custody and easy migration are the things.

  • Use that deletion app several times, separated by months.

It can edit the posts, include random stuff and conspiracy stuff.

    Sonetimes stop it partway through.

In short, yes they have "something", but what do they have?

  • If you can find a consignment store for used outdoor gear, many hiking shoes are strurdy.

Get low-tops unless you want knee problems down the line.

Learn to pad the insoles with foam so you can make them just for you, and easily alter them if things change.

  • Perhaps not the WHY, because I would have thought there'd be a rectifier to convert to DC, but the string lights I've used (costco feit) don't flicker when dimmed.

They usually have a separate wall-wart they run from and often have a wireless remote that dims as well as changimg colors.

I see this as a better way to run LEDs off household ac, as the power supply and controls are designed to work together.

  • My 40 year old Swiss steel pan still going. Lighter than iron.

I wipe it off with paper towel, no washing.

Untoasted sesame oil is great for starting a new seasoning, then whatever one prefers to cook with. I like avocado oil and ghee right now.
