  • I hate to say it, but the answer to who this works on, it's lawyers.

Technically speaking, I don't think there are any laws that directly criminalize violations of the Constitution. The courts can shut down things that are unconstitutional, but to dole out criminal punishments requires violations of actual laws, not the Constitution itself.

Luckily, there are several criminal laws that should apply here, including fraud, mishandling of classified data, and obstruction of justice, to name a few. Lock him up.

  • I don't understand anyone who says there's long waits, because I never have that problem, even when it's crowded. Conversely, when I lived in the midwest, I would have to wait for people to finish taking their sweet time paying inside before I could get to the pump.

Here we have an attendant who handles the pump and most people don't even get out of their car. They just drive away when it's done.

Anyhow, it's not a big deal to me either way. I don't mind that there's people being paid for that, because our gas prices don't seem higher for it compared to our neighbors. But I also wouldn't terribly mind getting out and pumping it myself either

  • This feels a bit more like setting up a ticket booth outside a public library, and offering a half-assed tour where the guide just reads the signs to you

I'm going to roll my eyes any time someone says they can't use the library without it, but you do you. If it keeps y'all reading, then that's fine.

  • While I didn't really want Biden in 2020, after his administration's record so far, I can honestly say I do want more of that. Not to say I wouldn't rather have someone much better and more left, but I'm pretty sure nobody better will be any more successful than Biden has been, given the Republican opposition in Congress.

What I really want is fewer Republicans in Congress, and short of moving to another district, there isn't much more I can do there. My district's congressmen are fantastic.

  • I don't think most mobile app development ever was a sustainable business model, especially if your app is not even providing the service or particularly unique features to begin with.

Not to say I don't think there should be apps, but anyone getting into it looking to make an independent career out of it will probably end up disappointed. The most successful apps are either aggressive with the in-app purchases, or are simply a free front end to a service that pays the bills.

We'll see how it turns out though, this developer does have a lot of loyal fans who treat the paid features as basically a voluntary donation, kind of like a Patreon. I'm pretty pessimistic that it will last, but successful business ventures don't always make complete sense to me.

  • For me, Sync was Reddit. It’s where 99% of my interaction with Reddit happened. I don’t really give a shit about Lemmy or the fediverse either. I’m here because Sync is a seamless product that gave me the best interface.

This is the part I don't get. I get it when you prefer a familiar interface, but most people are saying what you are saying, that all they care about is using Sync again, regardless of the service or communities behind it.

But that's weird. It's a social media site. It's primarily for the communities and the discussion. Sync doesn't rebuild the same communities that are still on Reddit. Most of those communities stayed on Reddit. Many of us migrated from Reddit, but the community is entirely different here. You may get a familiar interface, but the experience comes from the community.

  • Yeah, Sync was fine, just nothing special for me. I'm pretty sure it's mostly just people who want the same experience they had on Reddit.

I adapted to Voyager pretty quickly, and the only real issue I've had with it was that it didn't handle it well when .world went down, but that's improved enough now. I'm not the biggest fan of the swipe gestures, as they've made me accidentally vote on a lot of things without noticing, but it's nothing I can't get used to.

I don't need it to be exactly like it was before. I'm satisfied with something simple that does the job.

  • Seems to me this has spawned a fair bit of discussion... Which is the actual reason we're all here.

Sync has gotten a lot of buzz (I don't understand why, even on Reddit, rif was always better anyway) and that's always going to bring out the people who don't agree, for one reason or another.

Don't mistake an opinion you don't share for anything beyond what it is. I could just as easily parrot your statement back: if you don't think this discussion is productive, just ignore it. There's plenty of other discussions to get involved with on Lemmy

  • As an old person with opinions:

What's wrong with people sharing their opinions on a social media site? It's what we're all here for. If you're annoyed that so many different people have this opinion, well... Here we are. Sometimes discussion is one-sided and sometimes it's not.

  • KOLOS: You didn't believe all Klingons were soldiers?

    ARCHER: I guess I did.

KOLOS: My father was a teacher. My mother, a biologist at the university. They encouraged me to take up the law. Now, all young people want to do is to take up weapons as soon as they can hold them. They're told there is honor in victory – any victory. What honor is there in a victory over a weaker opponent? Had Duras destroyed that ship, he would have been lauded as a hero of the Empire for murdering helpless refugees. We were a great society, not so long ago. When honor was earned through integrity and acts of true courage, not senseless bloodshed.

  • Yeah it definitely looks like a flawed implementation either way. Probably a student got bored of trying to make it work, and went nuts with the #defines for fun

As a career programmer myself.... I can absolutely relate.
