  • Well, my system language is not English, which might be a contributing factor. I assumed it would be the same in English, TIL.

  • for months, every time i used google assistant to set a timer, and every few days without asking, i got push messages to use gemini instead of assistant on my phone. there is no way to disable those messages - they only go away if you have at least once activated gemini. btw, assistant functions like the timer DO NOT WORK if you use gemini; it's really great service to push your costumers to install a feature to take away a feature that is used daily.

  • those ai16z guys do want to create an Marc AIndreessen - an AI bot fed with as much stuff that Andreessen writes and says as possible; this bot will be able to invest in crypto autonomously and their target is to have this bot a better financial outcome than Andreessen themselves, if i understand the summaries correctly.

  • I went through most of the linked documentation, and the only thing that i was able to find was under https://elizaos.github.io/eliza/docs/advanced/eliza-in-tee/ in the docker-compose.yaml

     bash

    ...
            environment:
                - REDPILL_API_KEY=$REDPILL_API_KEY
                - SMALL_REDPILL_MODEL=anthropic/claude-3-5-sonnet
                - MEDIUM_REDPILL_MODEL=anthropic/claude-3-5-sonnet
                - LARGE_REDPILL_MODEL=anthropic/claude-3-opus
    ...
                - TWITTER_DRY_RUN=false
                - TWITTER_USERNAME=$TWITTER_USERNAME

which tracks with elons shitty type of humor. in the screenshot "Click on the Logs tab to view the agent logs" there is a timestamp: 2024-12-07, which, if it uses american style YYYY-DD-MM, would give credence to the statement that elon had earlier access to the ELIZA Agent.

I didn't find anything else, but i must admit that i am tired as hell and might have

edit: fixed my date stuff and i might have missed something lol

  • I've been raised roman catholic, but am agnostic.

No afterlife just means that your current existence has even more meaning, because it's all you will ever experience. I want to be a nice and caring person, not for the promise of some afterlife where i get rewarded (which might happen or not), but for the sake of everyone around me, who also just have this one life - enhancing their lives has more meaning as well. If everyone would live in this spirit, our existence would be a much nicer experience.

Even if you disappear into nothingness, what you did and what you said will echo through the times; every kind action will live on through the people that experienced it, and will encourage them to do the same, having a multiplying effect.

  • No, I just had to remove a few packages which blocked the upgrade. i followed the nobara wiki upgrade page. the only thing i found not working yet was adaptive sync, which caused black screens in games, but i was still on the closed source drivers - nobara switched to the open source ones on 41. i did the switch today, following this guide, but haven't tried it out again yet.

  • I remember playing this a few years ago on my pc, it was really fun, good to see you enjoying it too :-) I remember expecting it to be utter trash, since most games based on movie licences are, but was positively surprised.

The water rating is fun :-) i had a phase where i collected screenshots of rats in computer games, it was interesting how different they looked!

  • Hey, sorry to hear that your parents reacted like that, that's not very christian of them. Grew up roman catholic myself, but it's a lot more liberal in europe - more "hate the sin, love the sinner"-like. Keep your head up, you got this!

I'm in Europe but I've often read in similar posts that the Sikh Temples in the US/Canada give out food to anyone in need and don't ask questions, i would look up your nearest one. I sincerely hope that everything will work out for you.

  • Idea: split canada in 200 states, take over the senate!

  • I know that you thought a lot about it, but you came to the wrong conclusions. But hey, since you seem still pretty grumpy about all of this and nearly a year has come and gone, maybe try again? This time users at least already have a working blocking feature, i think that wasn't a thing yet last time. If a free alternative comes out of it i'm all for it.

The one thing that I didn’t get to execute properly was that...

... you didn't ask anyone if they would be ok with it, neither on the fediverse nor on reddit, not thinking about possible legal trouble for all federated instances which automatically copied the "property" (ugh i hate IP laws, but it is what it is) of reddit from your instance, opening them up to possible lawsuits.

... your actions would impact the existing structures, which flooded the "all" channel - which made you demand that everyone else change their usage patterns to filter out the spam you created.

... the existing lemmy codebase was probably not performant enough for what you were planning anyway - damn, there are instances that can barely handle federating with lemmy.world; had all of this worked as you planned, i'm pretty sure that the fediverse, or at least most of lemmy would have come to a screeching halt.

    This is booooooring.

To be honest, i am perfectly fine if the people who just want to flood their brain with content stay somewhere else. These people have a plethora of choices to get their dopamine flowing, and with pixelfed there is now one that grows pretty fast in the fediverse too.

    It’s not an exclusive option.

But it creates a chilling effect, if the main community for a specific topic is under control of people who might not be as open or even just interested as needed. All discourse is ideological - a discussion about fascism will look very different depending on who has the last say regarding whats acceptable to say.

Mastodon's issues, in my opinion, stem from something else - the name. Mastodon is a really crappy name. I tend to keep an open mind about most things, but i bounced off that name hard. I would choose a service named Bluesky over one named Mastodon 9 times out of ten even if it's not really decentralized. Maybe now with the transfer to a new non-profit someone thinks of a snappier name that's marketable.

  • I fully agree and just wand to add my suspicion that people in the Apple ecosystem are a pretty tough crowd to sell a Resident Evil title to begin with. Most gamers I know would never buy an Apple PC if they have a choice, and the overlap between "serious" gaming and Android is probably a lot stronger.

(I hear a faint echo of "Don't you guys have phones?" in this.)

  • Brainrotten daddy has forgotten that there are no more votes to be held, smh my head

  • The issue with the mirroring, at least how it was done, is that it was too much content for not enough users, creating the feeling of a deserted mall. If my comment disappears in a flood of posts, it's no better than when my comment disappears in a flood of comments (like it does on reddit). (Lets forget about the part when one guy started copying entire threads including their users, which was not well thought out)

A way of combining communities into "multilemmys" would be great. I can understand why there's pushback for separating topics from users. A Lemmy instance is not just a basket for specific topics, it's a expression of ideology, and as such ideological arguments about the moderation in your proposed structure are guaranteed. It also would reduce comments with minority viewpoints to a minimum.

A slow and steady promotion of lemmy is the best that can happen - from what i learned in the last year a slow and steady influx of people is preferred by the majority, and not a flood of people that can't be handled by our culture.

I like efficiency too, but some things do get lost when speeding things up too much.

  • It probably depends on what audience you are talking to. Privacy advocates, Anarchists, AI-Imagegen-Fans and digital pirates are probably a good fit for dbzer0, even with hexbear federated, and a LGBT-positive audience would feel at home on blahaj. So while promoting generalist instances per default is a good move, if the subreddit has a well-defined audience, a recommendation for a "specialized" instance might work better.

  • For everyone who doesn't want to read the links: important to note is that had the french activist accessed his protonmail account using any vpn (including proton) or the protonmail .onion site, they would have had nothing useful to report. also, it looks like they only logged the IP after being ordered to monitor access to the mailbox.

It also seems that they were quite frustrated that they couldn't resist in this case, mentioning the inappropate usage of anti-terror laws against what in reality were squatters (which in turn compelled the swiss judges to grant the monitoring).

  • you must be deluded to compare the massive problem with systemic racism in combination with the amount of hate crimes against minorities especially in the south with the situation in germany.

edit: for example, elon would be in clear violation against the Verbotsgesetz, while most of your media does not even admit that he was fucking sieg heiling.
