I was in pretty much the exact situation as you with two brother kittens when I was in 4th grade. They had really bad fleas, so my brother and I gave them both a bath. They both ended up going into shock from the water. One died at the vet - the other lived to be able 21.

I don't think it's the old memes bothering people; it's the fact that it's all I see when I open Lemmy. I'll open the app, set a page of low effort old memes and no other content, and then swiftly close the app. Every time. Not really a smart move when we're trying to attract Reddit/Twitter refugees IMO.

Yes, people are fed up with shit jobs. That has nothing to do with this topic, though. The topic is people working for a fascist. You are pretending they can't find another job and just have to accept defeat and work for a fascist. I stated that there's plenty of jobs out there, so that's not a valid excuse. We've known who this guy is and what he represents for at least 3 years now. Anyone still working for him at this point is either cool with the fascism or outright support it themselves. Stop making excuses for shitty people.

You just don't understand how the world works lol. Do you not understand we're in the middle of a massive labor shortage right now, and have been since the pandemic hit? No one is saying walk out on the spot. Job hunt and continue working, then just stop showing up. Jobs don't give you 2 weeks notice when they fire you or lay you off, so they don't deserve it either.

Voting is the bare minimum, but if all you do is vote, you're still a much better person than folks that don't vote. If you get involved beyond that, even better. But absolutely nothing beyond just fucking voting is required to get involved, but most of the young folks still don't vote.

No offense, but that's exactly why we're currently fighting fascism in America: apathetic folks like you that don't care. Do you vote ever?

In my experience, that's the case 100% of the time. I've never once in my 30+ years heard a liberal say the same thing. It's always Nazis Republicans trying to deflect and sweep their shitty views under the rug because they think it's some kind of trump card to get around their awful views and have civilized society allow them back in so they can spread their hate.

It amazes me the sheer number of developers whose hands I need to hold for even the most basic tasks that my elderly mother even knows how to do. I've worked in tech for about 15 years, and the terms "developer" and "tech nerd/enthusiast" used to be synonymous, but over the years, that's less and less true.

The tech nerds use to be the ones getting CS degrees. Now it seems like it's just another degree for indecisive majors and most of the kids I see starting out today aren't passionate about tech - it's just a degree/paycheck. It's just baffling to me lol. I work in support, and most folks on my end are big tech nerds still.
