  • Very good ideas, but I don't agree at all with your estimations.

For example it is terribly difficult to self host email, and very few people actually do it. Contrary to your estimation. It's not because of the server software, but because of the fight against spam etc. that costs so much.

You are focusing on only one "top" and so you can't see the reality. You are scoring centralization. Not decentralization.

Better if you look at the share of hosters at the "lower end", the ones that actually do self hosting, like:

% of servers with up to 10 users (counting only natural persons).

% of users on servers with up to 10 users (counting only natural persons).

  • What excuse can he use later?

I mean, when it turns out that it's not happening this year, and not even next year.

    Any bets?

My guess: He won't be with Tesla anymore then, so all these broken promises become somebody else's problem.

  • which can be charged for up to 325km

Has nobody told them that 'up to' is just ....yawn.... what all liars say. Whatever comes after the 'up to' has no meaning anymore.

charging speed of 2.5km per second

I want that as driving speed 😇

  • Could browse as per normal with abysmal internet speed

Of course. It's because they had to catch and write down every single byte with a pencil on paper, then decrypt it, understand it, report the funny ones to a boss, who nodded slowly and silently and then they typed it in again on the other side.

  • Couldn't someone living near a border just go over and buy stuff and skip the tariffs?

Yes, they could. Yes, they can. Yes, they do.

Yes, the ones who do it as a business get caught, eventually ;-)

  • I have said for a long time: Altman wants nothing less than to rule the world.

Remember this when he collects his next truckload of venture capital, and then the next...

I have said for a long time: AI models need transparency.

We need to know that their answers and decisions follow ethical and legal rules, and we need to know exactly which ones, and it must be possible to prove this in court and in the sales showroom.

Therefore a new kind of AI models will be needed (that is not even invented so far), because the current kind of AI models must be forbidden for their fundamental lack of transparency.

  • Diversity. People on R were less uniform.

    Maybe because they were more.

When there was only one allowed opinion in a sub, then you could often find another sub with the same topics allowed, but the only one allowed opinion was another one.

  • bootloader, the initramfs, the boot procedure, systemd, PID 1, you can check the logs, you have all those little things that make the system work [...] it's all dandy.. if I have a problem with a program I can usually debug it, check its logs, and get it to run.

I find it very safe to say: forget it. You can never acquire such a completeness of understanding with a windows. It is too much, the parts are too different, and too obfuscated.

Look at it from the other side:
The fact that this level of knowlege is possible in Linux (which is decades old, too) is a result of the openness in "open source" and of the "keep it simple" principle there.

Windows is build deliberately in such a way that several different "windows" professionals are needed to keep all the threads together, and they all need to have paid for their "windows" education with their "windows" certificates etc. But none of them can go to such a depth in every part of it.

And if somebody objects here, and says, hey, even idiots can get these certificates, then I say, ok, what did you think for whom it is made.

  • How do I make sure not to become this kind of person?

These are many different questions, so it needs lots of answers. I can see three aspects now. There may be more.

Some of these things they do are clearly toxic. So you can avoid being like this if you always continue to love yourself exactly as good as you love other humans, and stay ready to question your own actions / behaviour, and change if needed.

Some of these things aren't so bad per se, but they are triggering you. This means that you do the same and you find it bad, but have not found a way to change yourself. This is the hard part, because this is also where you can't see yourself properly. You need help from others. Ask some very, very trusted friends where and how it happens that you do the same things. And be ready for their answer even if you don't like it. This thing: be ready if you need to change yourself, is also the most important of all my suggestions, because: as soon as you aren't ready for this anymore, it means you have already become (a good bit) like this other kind of person.

Another part of the answer is that you can't know the future, therefore it won't be possible to determine everything. You are going to make mistakes, like everybody does. My advice for this part is to have mercy with your future self.
