Unfortunately, the US has a launch on warning policy.

So even if every warhead Russia has is a dud, or doesn’t even re-enter the atmosphere, they’ll still be nuked into a fine mist of concrete and carbonized human dust about 20 minutes after we realize their bombs don’t work.

And then the rest of us get to live through nuclear winter.

As long as no one’s nuclear trigger fingers get itchy, I’ll be happy.

The police get plenty of money

They just choose to spend it on surplus military gear and vehicles instead of training their cops.

It’s also a logistical nightmare.

How do you get millions of people out of the country in a timely fashion.

They’d need some place to put all of them for sorting, some kind of camp where they could concentrate the population.

Likely they’d just be sitting around all day, but thanks to the 14th amendment, they can be put to work for free.

And it would take forever to get all these people over the border, and they could just come right back over. They’d need some kind of long term solution, something final to prevent more immigrants from coming over.

Yeah this is gonna be bad.

They likely have little idea of what being governable means.

They’re an uncontacted tribe. All they know is some strange people showed up on their land and started wrecking the place.

If some people showed up at your house, wearing strange clothes and speaking a language you don’t understand, started tearing down your walls and throwing out your food, wouldn’t you resort to some kind of violence to defend yourself and your home?

This must be terrifying for them, especially because a lot of uncontacted tribes have oral histories about being forced out of their original lands by what we know to be mercenaries.

Either a 17 year old is old enough to control themselves and skills be tried as an adult, in which case they’re ills enough to be responsible for their actions. Or, a 17 is too immature, and their parent’s are responsible for their behavior.

If your flight is on a Boeing aircraft, you’re likely in the same situation as the astronauts.

What I can’t understand about this situation, is they’ve apparently been studying the craft’s helium leaks this whole time. But, as far as I’m aware, they’ve done 1 EVA to look at the thing. How are they inspecting the physical condition of hardware(pipes, seals, welds, brazed joints) via software from the ground and the results of one EVA. I also can’t see NASA giving the green light to really strip the Starliner to the guts while it’s attached to the space station, so did the astronauts even get a chance to look closely to find these leaks. A quarter of my job is finding leaks in high pressure piping systems, and you often have to really get in there and remove all the panels to pinpoint a leak. I highly doubt nasa has allowed the crew to rip apart a space capsule the same way I would rip apart a rooftop unit.

GRRM gave the showrunners his notes on the last two books.

Now he famously doesn’t do traditional storyboards, he’s a very organic kind of author. He makes a character in his head, puts them in a situation, and just writes what they would do, and everything flows from there. But, every story does have to have a beginning, middle, and end. So the major plot points have to be written down somewhere.

You know how Jon turned into an NPC who just kept repeating that he didn’t want the throne, pretty sure that’s a major plot point that was in the notes. The note was probably “Jon doesn’t want the throne” so that’s all the dialogue the writers gave him.

There is a decent chance that season 8 was a beat for beat execution of George’s notes, white walkers invade, Jon unites the north and with Dani and they defeat them, march on kings landing, Dany descends into madness and burns down capitol, story over.

If that’s really how it’s ultimately going to pan out, I can see GRRM not wanting to release it after seeing how fans disliked the ending. I think fans disliked the execution of the ending more, but I can also see how disheartening it would be to get a glimpse of how people would react to the ending of a story you’ve been writing for almost 30 years, and finding out that it’s almost unanimously hated.

There’s also not that many.

Hundreds of people, yes, maybe a couple thousand at charlottesville and Jan 6th, but there’s almost 400 million Americans. If they were really that popular, I’d expect 10s of thousands of people at protests like that.

It’s all about scale, and they don’t have it.

They know they are unpopular.

Conservatives only account for a little more than 30% of the population, most of them are older too.

They know that young, average Americans dislike their policies, which is why they made this playbook. They need to get someone in power who can execute all of their fantasies before they lose all chances of getting elected in our current system, and they need to change the system so they can cling to power.

In order to energize their remaining voters, they need to make the alternative to them appear threatening, so they fabricate all of this nonsense like migrant crime and culture wars, to make the current America seem like a violent and dangerous place, when the actual numbers show that this is literally the safest time to be alive in American history.

This is the lashing out of an old, dying beast. But they are still incredibly dangerous, as Project 2025 shows. They have a plan to seize power and maintain it through political appointees and the usurpation of the checks and balances we have left. Once they control most of the government, it will be impossible to route them out without crippling the country.

They published the damn plan for anyone to see, and if even half of it goes through we won’t be the same country anymore.

I’m sure Intel makes all sorts of chips for military hardware.

They won’t be allowed to die. How will the missile be able to subtract where it isn’t from where it is if the chip that does the subtracting isn’t made anymore.

I’m wouldn’t be surprised if there hasn’t been a full investigation into the intel fabs due to this. If consumer chips have been melting themselves for years due to shit manufacturing, shouldn’t someone in the DOD be asking if the chips in their fancy missiles are going to melt themselves halfway to the target?

After reading the children of time series, I choose to use octopodes simply due to the fact that they are beautifully narcissistic little bastards in those books.

Man is that a good, if gut wrenching series.
