Maybe. I just mean once(if) there becomes an OS that reliably runs Steam and the games on Steam, there will be a viable alternative to Windows for a significant population of users.

I think once Valve polishes SteamOS for desktop environments there will be actual largescale migration.

The electorate wanted a break from Biden, and if Harris' campaign funding relied on not breaking with Biden, what does that tell you about the influence and intent of that funding?

The way it works is communities are hosted on the instances and when moderators do things in communities that makes people mad those people can only go to that community's instance administrators.

And then people get really angry at instance operators and admins with differing policies and rules about content and moderation.

So those conflicts can and do drive some culture wars. (Ex: Blahaj has little tolerance for gatekeepers, .ml has no patience for american liberal politics, .world is particular about zionism, and so on.)

But otherwise except for instances that defederate from each other the perk is absolutely that instances don't really matter for registering and posting as a user.

At most just check the instance rules before posting and you'll probably be just fine on Lemmy.

There's heavy handed moderation in .ml communities that people hold big grudges about, and that's mostly about it.

There has been more movement towards changing that in the last year than I have seen in twenty years combined. Hope isn't yet dead.

That was kind of the critical issue going on. There was this whole movement to get some kind of course change on Israel. Biden made it clear there was a higher chance of Trump changing course on Israel. Kamala insisted she would not change course from Biden.

For what it is worth the new governor ran on hiring more police. As the former AG Bob's goal was to massively expand the police state, and he was clear on that. And boy have they been out making shows of force the last two months.

The current scenario is the State of Washington voted for more police budget, regardless.
