This is almost like asking if all social media sites are communist because reddit has a communism subreddit. (More accurate to say the question would be like asking if all phpbb are communist because theres a communist board or two out there, but idk if the general pop even knows what a php board is anymore)
People need to stop putting chess on a pedestal. Its a game. General intelligence has no bearing. Its a specific skillset you can hone by practice and research, just like any other game.
But I wouldn't call someone named Frieda as Catherine. The disconnect for me comes when involving proper nouns. I understand on a historical level roughly how these came to be, but common decency tells me that I should call a proper noun by its proper name, but that isnt really true.
For me, its not that it would be irritating, but rather spike my anxiety and makee very uncomfortable, a feeling of being unsafe moreso than irratation
Im honestly confused. Youre mad that the post youre making in a public space so that anyone can see it, is seen by anyone? Youre mad that people want rules in these spaces, so it can be a friendly place instead of devolving into a cesspit? If you want to talk privately, yes of course this isnt the space to do so.
Theres plenty wrong with the surveillance state the entire world is moving to, but your take seems to be a hot one.
I spread this information anytime I can find it to be relevant. This and the incorrect myths about goldfish memories and short lives are so annoying to me. I love my fish friends
Other users have already opined my thoughts on the subject, so Ill just simply say Ada is doing a great job and should not change it.
However, this post and the comments by OP are weird. I spend WAY too much time on lemmy, and Ive seen every single post on blahaj in the past 6months (excluding ones i probably missed because they got deleted) and read a good amount of the comments, along with reading a lot of posts from federated instances. And yet I dont see the problem that OP is describing. And it makes me wonder what OP would gain from this, why would they so vehemently go out of their way for this, create a potentially (or at least, in a different community I have blocked) false narrative for this?
The things that jump out to me first are they either want rules so they can skirt them and say "but i didnt technically break any rules!" Or it is because theyve been banned and salty about why. If either case is the true motive, maybe just dont interact with blahaj? I dont speak for everyone, but I dont care about someone who can technically not break any rules but still be a purposeful nuisance, or some transphobe who pretends to be nice. I used to tell people online I was a cis woman, but I found that to be a mistake. It had people treat me properly, but I ended up being around people who were treating me fine, but were transphobes I only found out later. I do not want to be around these people.
Everyone praises them? The only times Ive heard (from westerners visiting/moving there) is that it is very annoying that there is never anywhere to throw away their trash
My memory says that both vent and teamspeak were way better for audio, but this was also a time where no one had a mic remotely close to the average you get today. Video, yes. But skype was really buggy and often did not even work
Cant read the article due to paywall, but, nothing "went wrong" with skype, it was and has always been utter trash. Just having your username leaked was a security breach. Skype's only merit was it was the first easy to use video calling platform that combined text, audio and streaming in one.
Theres a reason why it was so easy to move my friends group off skype to discord right when discord launched, but I havent been able to convince that same group to move from discord.
Oh Im really familiar with that place. Let me know if you need directions
