  • You are such a witty person. Seriously that is really witty. I never heard anyone suggest fax before. Where did you develop that skill or come up with such a novel expression? Do you get to say that often? It must be a real exciting moment when you can fit that into a conversation?

    So many questions.

  • Minimum wage in 1975 was around 2 dollars and many rentals are two rooms or more. Grocery store may have averaged higher as most included meat cutters on prepared products and I bet that includes management. The shelve stocker likely getting 2 dollars an hour.

Ya let us value that the same as a guy working in a mine or someone developing software. Get serious people. We are paying to subsidize someone to work at Walmart is because we choose to do this. And why wouldn't a person want to work a higher value job if the government is willing to top them up to a higher rate?

  • There are a great number of jobs that pay a living wage. Working on a convenience store or Walmart does not need to be one.

And a living wage does not mean you should be able to live alone with your own kitchen and bathroom without roommates. Something past generations certainly need to do. Those single member working families that were paid s high wages typically worked in a mine or a higher paid job. No one could work at the convenience store and support a family alone.

  • I think though you are also getting a backlash throughout the world in that this white glove woke treatment of Islam that suggest they do not need to rein in the fringe extreme elements within their faith is acceptable is becoming unacceptable. That they are not collectively responsible for the actions of the those that take their faith too literal wears thin. It is akin to the pressures put on the Catholic religion that was expected to clean up their sins of which were far smaller in size. That was expected and maybe it should be expected that the group as a whole becomes responsible

The result is that we are starting to see majority of people begin to say you need to actively denounce and more so, take steps to remove those of your faith that engage in violent methods otherwise we will collectively group you together and effectively punish you. And while maybe this is a hard pill to swallow, that might be the only effective way to change human nature on a large scale.

  • I find Lemmy quite a bit more toxic then Reddit and that is bothering me. Was on a post where a cop was full up ambushed and murdered and every single post was praising it. And there was over a hundred posts so not just a couple of wing nuts. Then you got the tankies and a great number of immature posts. Then you got the extreme left leaning slant attitude on every subject that pretty much creates echo chambers along with mods that will shadow ban. Technically working well, administratively and quality wise the experience is pretty low.

  • Actually wages are quite good and with that very low taxes along with reasonable housing prices, you are very wrong on that point. Power grid. In line with California for failure. Much of that has to do with lack of base load more than anything.

And for your other points. Little bit of hyperbole there.

  • Texas is one of the wealthier states with very good growth in wages and very attractive to business with their zero business tax strategy. Along with this is some of the best housing prices and population growth. They seem to have done pretty good in the last 30 years although they have sides that have not done so good.
