  • I would start by discussing with him. Taking a shower after smoking would eliminate the smell, and in a pinch a quick spray down with scentless Lysol would help. Treating the cause is far easier. If the smell seeps into the walls you can kiss goodbye to your security deposit.

  • As someone who despises ads, if adblock on YouTube were to stop working tomorrow I wouldn't use YouTube until it's fixed. So creators I do watch aren't missing out on ad revenue they'd otherwise get with me. If I recommend a video to a friend who doesn't block ads, a friend who otherwise wouldn't see it, the creator still benefited from my view. For creators I enjoy often, I support them in other ways - subbing if they stream, buying merch, etc.

  • If I get a package requiring a signature via UPS, UPS just forces me to go into their store. Like clockwork, the delivery day comes by and at the end of it the status updates to 'recipient unavailable to sign' or something to that effect. I check my doorbell camera and no one ever comes to the door let alone rings it. One time I saw the UPS truck stop at my driveway and the status update timestamp was from while it was stopped. It's pathetic. I'm not even a hard house, literally a suburbs house where the door is like 10ft from the road.

  • One of the first things I did when I took over an old php project was convert to bcrypt and add logic to automatically upgrade the hash on their next login (and in case you're wondering, we also removed the old insurance hashes and the upgrade logic after a while, forcing remaining users to do a password reset).

  • I have 6 siblings, we're all just about evenly spaced at about a year and a half. I get along with some better than others but none are excluded.

  • The Dockerfile is essentially the instructions for deploying from scratch. Sure, they most likely only exist for one distro but adapting isn't a huge chore.

You can also clone the repo and build the container yourself. If you want to update say, log4j, and then attempt to build it, that's still entirely possible and easier than from scratch considering the build environment is consistent.

  • Not to mention a dead pixel can be indicative of future failures. My brand new Pixel 7 Pro had a single dead pixel. I didn't notice until I finished setting it up (or maybe it didn't show up until then). Being lazy and not wanting to set it up again, I decided to ignore it. It was at the bottom, out of the way.

A month or two later I woke up one day, checked notifications and took my horror that dead pixel had upgraded to an entire line at the bottom. Enough was enough, I missed my window for a store return but was able to get a RMA setup. Replacement is going strong, no dead pixel and none showing up.

  • I used Arch for AUR, but with flatpak getting more popular these last few years even the more niche stuff I had to rely on AUR for got a flatpak. So I've been trying out immutable distros like Fedora Kinoite.

  • Based on your description it sounds like you haven't given it a fair shake. I'll take TS over JS any day, at least there is room for improvement. I will say however I personally haven't been unlucky enough to run into projects that abuse the any type. The worst I've run into is a JS library with no typings I have to manually type.

  • A heat gun is also inexpensive and very useful. 3M mount you need to remove (and/or reuse)? Heat gun. Sticker? Heat gun. Frazzled threads on clothes? Heat gun. No time to properly blow dry? Heat gun! (the last one is a joke, don't do that).

  • To be fair, a lot of the game breaking launch bugs that hurt the game for me were with PVP (specifically, the instanced wars). I do know there were others but those PVP bugs are what I'll always remember. The lag, the broken healing, the hatchet exploit, and a few others.

  • In my opinion, I think that properly done AI assisted doctors are a good thing. Doctors have to keep track of so much stuff that is constantly changing, just to make a diagnosis. AI guidance can and will help.

Keyword being "properly" which is probably not going to be the case.

  • It can also aid after a disaster such as a hurricane when cell networks go down, although technology is coming a long way to reduce that disruption.

  • Audiobooks have been a great coping mechanism for my ADHD, they've also made me a better driver.

For the latter, if I listen to my music I definitely feel a bit more aggressive, whereas if it's an audiobook (and I've given myself sufficient room), I'm much more forgiving.

For the former, I can mix them with menial tasks and it makes them so much more doable.

  • I gifted my mom my Flip 3 when I migrated off (I couldn't tolerate the cameras on it). She only broke it once early on by dropping it with the screen open, but that's what the accidental protection is for. Other than that, she uses it daily and it still is going strong.

  • While I agree with this, the one except I've found is Sprite. Different genetics have different tastes but I've found I like my Kroger generic Sprite more than the name brand.

  • Not sure if it counts, but a web server I took over had a checkout process that took about 10 seconds. I added a queue and offloaded everything not a required verification step and took the request down to under a second.

  • Same. I have a follow-up appointment in half a month and I'll ask about it again, otherwise I'll just find a pharmacy.

  • Pleco. I have a couple freshwater fish tanks and the plecostomus is a common algae eater used to keep tanks clean. So I named my robot vacuum Pleco lol.
