Some people use VPN to do so, which is IMO borderline fraud.

If your main adress is in a country (even for 6-12 month) it's normal that you pay the service at that country price (just like you pay taxes or food theire not where your from) the opposite would be a discrimination against immigrant, which at least in modern democracy is (mostly) illegal

I don't know beehaw, and in general have a pretty bad image of it. Like a bunch of people who want to play together and don't want to federate with anyone, and when you do you it's to troll. So indeed, you're already mostly out of the fediverse.

I live in Western Europe, so quite far from Russia, and feel like Russian jet flying from the Baltic to the Atlantic at the edge of international sea is like an common event, so not sure there is a news there
