  • I expect that the money goes in the boss pocket. Well I understand the cost of the truc, tooling, and paying an employee waiting for a call has a cost, but still shit it's expensive for 45 min of work and one hour of commute doctors and lawyer are cheap in comparison

  • If you have any leadership role in a guild, you know more about (project) management than someone who doesn't

At the time there was no server per language/regio, we learned English by playing video game

IVAO/vatsim might help you to learn aviation phraseology. However, relatively few simmer do fly VFR on the network

  • Frozen veggie are a cheat-code. If you're in a hurry, just throw some veggies in a pan, You can make pasta or rice to eat-with if you want soemthing a bit more heavy, and if you feel in a luxury mood add cococonut cream in curry powder

  • Why would any one spend one month of minimal wage in a phone, especially considering the trend to boycott made in US.

I am ready to believe that iPhone are great but no way I spend that much money for a phone

  • there isn't actually that much to read, at the user level. Nowadays, on a "user friendly distribution" you should be able to launch firefox to browse lemmy, and open a pdf without much difficulties. Even printer aren't anymore a nightmare to install.

    Main stuff to know IMO.

    • Linux distribution came with app store long before it was cool, for 99% of the case should just use-them, no need to worry (at first) about how to install an app which doesn't come from an official repository
    • While you can choose among many Desktop environment, just take the one coming with the distro you choose and get used to it.
    • Terminal is a pretty neat tool once you know-it, but so is a Torque-wrench for your car. You do not have to know how to use-it to use a PC.
  • While it's a core belief of Abrahamic monotheist that there is no god but Gods practically speaking some people kept some traditionul/pagan belief. I think obviously about some Africans doing their own mix, but even in Europe, tons of Pagan belief stay around, stuff like knocking on woodor having a Christmas tree, let alone various form of witchcraft which are also illegal for Christians but quite common, no matter whether it's an old man reading runes or a teen girl praying the moon because it looks cool on TikTok

  • It's surprising that it's not standard in any country and that it's not managed at the municipal level.

Where do I evacuate in case of natural disaster? Is there a dangerous factory which may explode/ release toxic products nearby? How high is the flood risk? What about forest fire

These info should be easy to get for everyone. Statistically speaking some citizen will (unfortunately) need it this year

  • I worked in 3 different European countries, in both academia and industry,

While not being common, it's not that rare to take a glass of wine or beer when doing a real-restaurant for lunch break at work. At least for people working in office.

  • While the actress has some notoriety, huge part of the international trade relies on short term work visa. When Airbus builds a new factory in the US, or That a US factory chooses German industrial robots, you need to send people on short-term work visa to kickstart it.

  • Serious answer : I am not living there, have no idea how to compare, nor whether the court system works as a safeguard.

Troll answer In democracy you have the right to healthcare and education, so it's been a while it isn't

  • Sure maps and miniatures are fun but some systems don't need them, some players are perfectly fine with the theatre of the mind play, or some small toys on a self drawn grid on sheet paper can work.

Some big streamers have done massive damage to she hobby by bringing the image that map and miniatures are necessary, and not at best a nice to have, at worst a distraction.

Sure I use sometimes a sketch on paper, but very rarely miniatures, and never accurate ones. Role-playing game isn't about miniatures

  • For Rpg : let the player take the initiative and bring their plot to the table. If they preptge game for you, it's les work as aGM (also no doodle scheduling, use fix dates)

For paragliding : if there is nobody on a flight site do not take off. Most likely you misunderstood something, and the site isn't flyable. Sure if you re very experienced, do hike and fly or do fly on a week day on a small site, it may not apply, but you're able to analyse by yourself

  • You can try mbin (ex kbin) which allows to follow users including Mastodon/misskeys account. While having a nicer UI than Lemmy. Only issue is that the default UI doesn't display the embedded images

  • If some things get downvoted way out of proportion

A thing I learned on that other site starting with a R is that Up/Down votes aren't rational you can get a lot of votes for a one line joke not answering the question, and get downvoted for a long argumented paragraph without anybody telling you wha't s wrong. So I tend to not care about votes.

Indeed, I don't get why upvotes are public, but downvotes are hidden unless you have some admin rights on an instance.

  • By definition, most political problem don't have a clear/unique good solution. You want to build more housing ? But how do you do-it ? Even on pretty technical topic like fire-safety, where do you set the balance between blocking various industries with heavy procedure and ignoring all safety practices for the sake of efficiency ?. Look at topic like tobacco and drugs ? Do you want to ban them because it's unhealthy ? Or allow them on the name of personal freedom ? Depending who look at the questions, it's going to change a lot.

  • For this kind of things, get a nurse coming at home to do it, it's out of what a randomq person can do safely.

To find friend, try any possible hobby, no matter whether you play volley ball, volunteer at the red Cross, or are part of a wine tasting group.

Sure you may need to meet 100 persons to have one you trust enough to call them a friend, but you need to start somewhere
