  • Gotta make sure the pizza bagels don't escape.

  • Carl Kalauokalani has no children, no background in education and no experience in political or community organizing. Yet a year ago, the San Jose resident started the Santa Clara County chapter of Moms for Liberty, the far-right “parental rights” group stoking the nation’s red-hot culture wars.

Reminds me of that picture showing the "Black Republican Committee" of Durham County, North Carolina.

  • I understand completely. The last time I went to a Best Buy was about 5 years ago for a game that was on sale because it had sold out already on Amazon. Annndd they didn't have it either despite it being listed as in stock. Best Buy is useless.

  • AT&T has like 3 different levels of unlimited plan

  • I never watched The X-Files but with winter coming up it’s always nice to have some new (to me) shows to watch.

Well if you liked those early seasons of Supernatural you'll probably like The X-Files too. They both owe a lot to a short lived show from the '70s called Kolchak: The Night Stalker.

Kolchak: The Night Stalker inspired The X-Files in the '90s, which in turn inspired Supernatural and Fringe in the early 2000s. Three great shows were built on the back of one series that's been more or less forgotten.

  • I will say this makes me think I should delete ofd my hard drive any season past 5 for x files now cause I never even get that high and it seems bad if this is how passionate you were about it.

Lol nah, it's not like that, I think seasons 6 and 7 were okay. There's a lot of good episodes there! It's just the turning point where the series started having a lot of bad/forgettable episodes and the overall mythology went off the rails. Seasons 8 and 9 on the other hand do nothing for me and won't be missed if you're trying to free up a few GBs on your plex server or something.

The reboot seasons (10 and 11) from 2016 are mostly misses EXCEPT for two episodes written and directed by Darin Morgan. S10E03 "Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster" and S11E04 "The Lost Art of Forehead Sweat". They're both comedic MoTW episodes and hold their own against the best comedic MoTW episodes from the original series. I highly recommend any X-Files fans who didn't give the revival a chance watch those two specific episodes. They're classic X-Files stories.

  • Well, I appreciate the courtesy. Your contributions will not be missed.

  • What are you talking about?

Say something of substance, if you can.

Oh I already did.. But as I thought, the irony of your own point was completely lost on you. If you insist on having your hand held in an effort to get you to understand that the experiences of others are just as valid as your own, fine. But only one of us here is suggesting the other thinks the way they do because of "WhAt ThE mEdIa RePoRts On." Got it? Good. We're done here.

  • I guess you’re talking from experience and not just what the media reports on.

    Sure.

I, personally, have had 0 bad experiences with law enforcement.

    That's good.

Really puts things into perspective when I have my own experiences to contrast what I read online.

LOL I'm sure the irony of this statement is completely lost on you.

  • Well in that case I'd recommend trying SlingTV. It's a lot cheaper than YouTube TV and if all you want is access to cable news channels that should cover it. SlingTV's app is as straight-forward as any other too so your wife shouldn't have trouble navigating it. Like I said earlier, they also offer the first month at a 50% discount so even if you don't like it you aren't gonna be on the hook for too much.

  • In the US the only people more dangerous to be around than cops are the people that desperately wish they were cops.

  • Can you elaborate on what options exist? I'm technically inclined and have yet to find a better cheaper alternative to YouTube TV which my not so inclined wife can use to watch news channel on our Apple TV.

Hey, sorry if there was any confusion, but when I spoke of work arounds I was specifically addressing that OP's mention of things like SmartTubeNext.

But YouTube TV is just one "cable alternative" in the US. Off the top of my head there's SlingTV, FuboTV, Hulu+Live, and Philo. As far as pricing goes, I can't point you to the cheapest option because I don't have much use for those services. I do know that Sling TV is pretty cheap. I usually sign up for SlingTV once a year during NHL playoffs and it's something like $20 bucks with a "one month half-off new sign up discount". So I assume the normal base price is $40ish a month.

  • People pay for watching YouTube ? Lol why don’t they use Firefox and ublock origin ? Or smartnext tube for android TV?, I will never understand human beings.

Sure, work arounds exist but they require varying degrees of technical competence to use them. A lot of people simply aren't comfortable doing so even when relatively straight forward guides are available. Plus, when it comes to piracy or even "grey area" solutions, some people just don't want to "risk" it. Just because a solution exists doesn't mean people shouldn't be pissed off that the legal means to enjoy content they want are being priced out of their reach.

Having said all of that, this article isn't about YouTube or even YouTube Premium. It's about YouTube TV, which is their cable alternative. Firefox, uBlock Origin, and SmartTubeNext aren't relevant to the discussion.

  • At this point I'm not sure why House republicans wouldn't want Hakeem Jeffries as the Speaker. At least then they could run home to their constituents and pretend to be a united party that's accomplishing nothing just because the Speaker is from the Democratic Party. Their base won't care that they're the majority party and would've had to let it happen. They'll just accept that everything from here on out is "the democrat's fault" as they always do anyways.

  • I look at Supernatural as a prime example of this. End it after 5 seasons. It could have been great, but seasons 6-11? or so were really bad IIRC. There was a great story arc that they should have just left alone.

The X-Files suffered from the same thing. Season 5's finale, appropriately titled "The End" was supposed to be the series finale. The X-Files movie (1998) was supposed to wrap up the main storyline of the show and transition the franchise into a series of big budget films. But before the movie was even released in theaters Fox got cold feet about losing one of their prime-time ratings juggernauts and negotiated a renewal to keep the show on TV for another four seasons... That's when things really started to fall apart. The show's main "mythology" storyline was always kind of a mess but in order to keep it going after the movie they had to do a lot of reconning.

Don't get me wrong, some of my favorite stand alone/MoTW episodes are from seasons 6 and 7, for example, Drive written by Vince Gilligan and guest starring Bryan Cranston. The Unnatural written and directed by David Duchovny. And X-Cops, which saw Mulder and Scully being reluctantly followed by a camera crew who happened to be filming an episode of the reality TV series Cops with the local PD (this episode was also written by Vince Gilligan). So it's not a total loss. But sometimes I wonder what could've been had Chris Carter and Fox stuck to the original plan to spin the franchise off into a series of films.

Edit: Sorry, everybody. I know this is a discussion about Archer and I'm replying to a comment that mentioned Supernatural by tying it to a third show, so I'm wildly off topic. But I couldn't help myself. I've been rewatching the series and I guess I had some thoughts about The X-Files that I needed to get out lol.

  • I didn’t do that on purpose, I assure you. Why are you assuming that in the first place?

Because I saw your comment before you edited it to enlarge the text. You can say it was a mistake all you like, I don't believe you but I see no point in arguing now that you've fixed it.

  • Editing your comment to enlarge the text of the Doug Stanhope quote isn't going to magically make more people consider what he said. It just makes your comment look obnoxious.
