  • so many users continue to shill for such decisions

I think that something that a lot of people need to be reminded of here, especially ex Reddit moderators, is that the users have NEVER particularly been fans of the moderators. In fact the moderators on Reddit helped the admins bring Reddit to the point where it is now in the first place. Setting up automoderator to catch buzzwords out of context and make people's comments disappear without notice or a trace is just as fucking dodgy as the admins flagging the word "Luigi".

So no, it's not a surprise that moderators getting into trouble for not falling in line with the admins doesn't cause a mass exodus. Because most people don't give a fuck about the moderators and would be glad to see them gone. With the way they have been abusing automoderator over the years, it wouldn't make much of a difference if they were replaced by an automated system anyway.

So if you want people to come to Lemmy, stop acting like they give a shit about the moderator that treats them like dirt. Because that'll probably have the opposite effect. I know that it did on me when all the mods were crying about the API and their modding tools. Start offering more reasons for why USERS should come here.

  • Do people think that the more specific labels and variations are the reason for the hate? Because as someone who only actually started looking up terminology and familiarising myself with the people late in life, and has walked amongst closed minded conservative people, they don't know or care about anything outside of 'gay' or 'trans'. Even non-binary is an alien concept to most.

It doesn't matter what the label is or what the colours are, people who hate anything out of the norm are going to hate anything out of the norm regardless. Especially when they've been raised in a religion that teaches them from childhood that anyone out of the norm is going to burn and suffer for eternity. They don't do research so that they know what they're talking about and they don't bother to ever actually get to know any of the people they claim to hate. They just like to hate.

If they weren't going after trans people right now, they would be going after gay people. And you can bet that's next anyway. Have people already forgotten how gay people were treated before trans people were the target?

  • To me it would make much more sense if this was the other way around. In other words, healthy men having higher sperm counts, not higher sperm counts leading to healthy men. Because you the way this study is framed, you could also link heart health to average lifespans.

  • BREAKING NEWS: A MAGA is a hypocrite and a liar. More at 10..

  • Just fyi, if you want the actual hashtag to show up, you need to put a backslash ( before it.

Personally, I fucking hate when markup only requires one symbol because it means you need to add a fucking backslash every time you actually want to legitimately use that symbol. And it's kinda anti user because people who aren't that clued up about how the markdown works are going to be wanting to make their posts in a particular way and end up with weird unexpected shit like bolding and resizing. I hate it. It should at the very least require a hashtag on either side of what you want to resize.

  • I'll definitely check it out again then. As a dual booter (for now until I can't update Windows 10 anymore), cross platform is ideal but otherwise as close as possible is the next best thing.

  • Last time I checked out Notepadqq, it was nothing like Notepad++, if what you want from Notepad++ are the features. Maybe it's improved though. Personally I've found that with the right combination of settings and add-ons, the closest editors on Linux to Notepad++ are Geany (GTK) or Kate (KDE).

  • From how I understand it, this first consultation with a general practitioner is for them to just gather basic information to pass on to the actual psychologist / psychiatrist. I'm doing this through government healthcare, not private, so I kinda have to go through the system this way first because I think there's just too many people coming through the system. So I'll just have to see how it goes as far as specialists etc. are concerned. I have heard that this side of our healthcare system is actually pretty good though, once you're out of the general hospital side of the process (I was expecting the opposite reputation in this country). So I'm holding out hope that this all goes smoothly. It's going to probably take a couple of months before anything concrete though.

  • Could be one of those that I saw this morning, I guess. In world. It was a 'reasonable' post complaining about Trump. I just block them as I see them now tbh. Even the_donald started as satire.

  • And now they're apparently starting to set up shop on Lemmy too. Before I blocked it, I saw they're on their best behaviour too. But mark my words, once the dating and flirting period is over, their shoes are going to come off and their feet are going to be up on the table.

I would've hoped that by now everyone would've learnt their lesson to never trust or listen to these people again. They flat out lie when they're talking about things like 'freedom' and once they're in power, they serve themselves and fuck over everyone else in society. And their leaders, that they don't mind associating with and supporting are a bunch of inbred kiddie fiddlers and have been since long before Trump. And yet here we are again, letting them have a seat at the table.

These people cannot be fucking trusted. And I'm willing to bet that they're going to be a source of a lot of downvote trolling too, in queer communities and women-centric communities.

  • personally i think they are sanitizing the site

Yeah, I also get the impression that they're making it more 'radio friendly' for advertisers and shit. I used Reddit for a little bit over a decade, used to be a lot more rowdy there back then, and about two years ago I got hit with my first suspension for an anti religion, then my second and my third in the same year, also for stupid shit. Didn't bother appealing the first two but managed to successfully appeal that third one. And I've been hanging on since then until a couple of months ago.

    posting behaviour, writing style

I think they would definitely catch me on these if I had to spend too much time there.

  • I've been playing around with Facebook for the last couple of weeks and the censorship is so crazy these days is isn't funny. But only if you post anti Trump and Elon content, even as a non American. I've already had a couple of posts flagged for 'misinformation' since after Zuckerberg made this announcement and I've seen it happening to other actual Americans too. These 'free speech' people are all fucking jokes and liars and the biggest pearl clutchers whenever someone exercises their free speech to speak against them.

  • Just wanted to come back here and say, finally have an appointment for March 7. Definitely a general doctor first like I assumed for a basic assessment and shit, then from there I find out where I need to go or what to do.

  • Yeah that's fair enough and I'm definitely generalizing. It's just the general sum of my personal observations over the years. And it could easily be just seeing the wrong conversations in the wrong places or whatever. To be fair, you seem to hear about US issues a lot more than European issues on the net in general anyway.

  • I don't want to start a war or anything but as someone from neither the USA or Europe, Europeans online often come across as even more exceptionalist than Americans, despite the reputation to the contrary. Because, at least in leftish or liberal spaces, no one is more ready to shit on and call out the USA than Americans. And I don't mean they're anti-American or whatever, they just want their country to be better, so they call out all the shit.

Europeans on the other hand often seem more proud and / or defensive about their countries. Maybe they speak openly in their own country specific communities but I don't get the sense that they're as open and friendly to outside input or criticism as the Americans are.

The way I see it, we're all hooked onto the same stream of memes and billionaire owned news sources everywhere across the world. So thinking we're immune to being overtaken by dangerous alt right nonsense and ignoring all the obvious signs would be a very stupid move, wherever you are. If they're not taking this seriously, they're doing exactly what the Americans did and have done since 2016.

  • On the flip side of this, my main account was banned there but my alt account that I've also had for a few years now wasn't. And I've even made a post or two with it there in the months since my main was banned, just to see.

And the funny thing is, the last time I was a banned for a few days (I managed to successfully appeal), they also banned my alt account that I had never even posted on before. Then unbanned it along with my main account after my appeal. So clearly their systems are aware that the two accounts are the same person.

  • I hated that hairstyle when I was a kid too lol.

  • I was actually thinking of coming back to this and asking if you'd heard anything. Thanks for the update! Pretty weird that it's just seemingly running like a zombie there.

I haven't seen any of the porn communities in the three non porn instances I've tried here personally. So out of the big ones, world seems to already de-federated at least.

  • Based on a couple of arguments I've now had, they actually sound a lot like manosphere, anti woke people. Just a bit more intelligent and well read. But even the "trans ideology" phrase that they like to use is just their version of "woke agenda".

I think that it is a sect of feminism that has been created and seeded by the same right wing christian nationalist types that are also behind the manosphere and MAGA. The Peter Thiel and Elon Musk types. They realised in the '90s that calling everything "satanic" wasn't working, so they started coming up with new terminology to pull people in.

First it was "SJWs", then "woke" but it all attracts the same kind of people. And "trans ideology" was the term they came up with for women that read and aren't completely dense. So they're all behaving like reborn christians and going around stomping out anything the norm. But they also sincerely believe they're right.

But honestly, based on the conversations I've had so far, all alt right people have the same talking points, which TERFs definitely are a part of. They're just, as I say, not as clearly dumb as other alt right types.

  • Well from what I've learnt now (the wheels are in motion and this is going to be government not private), I have to actually see a regular doctor in the hospital first, then they refer me to whoever it is that I actually need to see. So it sounds like I'll be on the road to seeing a specialist and having more answers soon!
