  • His grudge against Ukraine likely originates from this incident - Zelensky not bending to his will, and the Ukraine scandal blowing up in his face.

Maybe but more so, he’s doing what Putin tells him to.

  • Apple was doing that already I thought, but if they want to j/o special Trumpy, okay.

  • That’s the same incorrect usage of the term blackmail as Elron Musk in his idiotic “don’t try to blackmail me with money” speech. The proper term is extortion.

  • There's something ongoing, though. If Trump didn't think he needed him still, or didn't have some reason he's forced to keep him around, he'd just tell Musk to fuck off. Same as how he fires appointees, doesn't follow through on other contracts and stiffs people on bills.

  • That's a good point. Zucker has a higher amount of dislike vs. intense dislike.

  • Zucker kinda somewhat tried to do that with the "metaverse" thing. He pulled it off very poorly and it was a stupid idea in the first place, though.

  • I'm surprised Zuckerberg is more disliked than Elron. Though Zucker has done some weird shit lately taking Facebook culture right wing, he's been way less of a public pain in the ass than Musk. He's been widely known as a dislikable figure for longer though.

  • I recall how in 2015 many in the Republican establishment were actually opposed to Trump getting into power. Then, they suddenly flipped and started saying he was the best ever, and have since then. It seems they got here on fear of Trump and his fervent fans and after enabling him for years, they end up... in fear of Trump and his fans.

  • Must be a tough decision to stop working so hard on harming the country and enjoy retirement.

  • Not revenge as much as financial motives. He wants less oversight on his business activities so he can make more money and be involved in fewer lawsuits and regulatory actions. There seems to be a broader motive to degrade the US and cause chaos and hardship, which I assume is other Republicans and influences like Putin. Some are probably favors to other interests - for instance, my guess about decreasing park rangers is probably to degrade parks and decrease attendance so they can justify drilling for oil or mining in national parks. The amount of money saved by slashing federal employment is trivial in terms of the budget, so it certainly isn't that. One thing is that before the election they said they were going to specifically make sure that agencies were staffed with Trump loyalists at every level, so I'd bet when you hear there were cuts at the FDA and the staff said they seemed random, everyone who was fired voted for Democrats, had Democrat supporting social media activity, and so forth.

  • It registers disapproval. Maybe the designers of Lemmy wanted to avoid the censorship aspect voting has on reddit? I suppose it depends on what type of sorting viewers are using, as downvotes mean it won't appear on Hot or whatever. I do agree it works that way to some extent on Reddit. Real censorship is mods or admins deleting your content, though.

  • On reddit it will make comments automatically folded and at the bottom, but not hidden. Or for posts, prevent them from showing on algorithmically sorted pages. On Lemmy it doesn't really do anything afaik. So how so?

  • Yeah, they didn't totally ditch him. But they didn't seem to want to allow him to be democratically [...] elected as a candidate.

  • After watching what happened with Bernie and so on more recently, my belief is it was not an organic thing, but rather the DNC intentionally iced Dean with the complicity and assistance of the media.

  • Just as brilliant as tossing out the pandemic playbook in 2017.

  • I tried making a site and the preview was hanging off the bottom of the window and couldn't be brought up, along with I presume the buttons I needed to click to go to the next step.

  • That part is true. Definite 90s vibes.

  • Yes, I would prefer to be literate.
