It's not FOSS, but Google's adding this feature right into Photos

No one knows how they work because they've been restricted from researchers

Standard practice at game stores for over 20 years. They do this to prevent theft. Before this policy got instituted we'd have angry people showing up with empty cases because someone slipped it out of the box and then out of the store

I worked at Electronics Boutique over 20 years ago, and we'd do the same thing. If someone brought a game back and got a refund because they didn't like it, or they got it for the wrong platform we'd just re-shrink wrap it and put it back out as new. But the lazy person who did yours didn't even break out the heat gun smh

Also, I'm not sure if GameStop even allows this, but back in the day employees were allowed to borrow almost any game in the store to try it out, so we could know about it when selling. And we'd re-shrink those too

You can block bot posts in your feed. And there are certain instances that are pretty much all bot posts you can just stay away from in general. But I completely agree about them being a problem. Lemmy needs it's own original content if it's ever going to succeed. Treating it like a Reddit mirror isn't going to move our community anywhere.

I disagree with this sentiment. Lemmy, just as Reddit before it, is a link aggregator, not a forum. This is not a glorified bulletin board, even though it has comments. Text posts are fine, but they are not what I'm here for generally. Discussions can be great on sites like these some times, but if I want to have nuanced conversation with people there are better platforms specifically designed for that.

And honestly, I only see memes taking up like 5-10% of my feed. It was far higher back when I subscribed to !memes@lemmy.ml originally, but that's why I unsubscribed from it. Your experience is going to vary by what community topics you follow

Mainly with the bootloader, but also a few device drivers. But this was like 6 years ago and UEFI was still new. So maybe it's better now. Generally the older your hardware the more likely it is to be supported

The last time I tried installing on a MacBook I had all kinds of problems. Maybe it is better now, but I'd suggest starting with a traditional PC if you're brand new to Linux

Now that streaming services are jacking up their prices and people and cancelling, it seems like a perfect time for a resurgence in physical media rental, ironically.

Nvidia has all but backed out of the mobile chip market, and those chips are what this line used. So that's why we haven't seen any updates in years. But the good news is they have made a new chip for Nintendo's next-gen switch coming out sometime next year. So within a year of that coming out, I would expect to finally see a new Shield or Nvidia TV or whatever they call it, using a similar chip to what goes in the Switch 2

At first I read this headline as a good thing, but after reading the article it's bullshit. They're just giving temporary discounts to new tenants while still gouging the existing ones. And it's all in an effort to maintain their ridiculous prices 🙄

I bought BotW right when it came out and I'm still not all that much further than you. I've come back to it multiple times, but just can't get into it. I had trouble with the freezing area too. Took me an hour before I finally stumbled across a solution. I've gotten a bit further than you, and it just keeps getting more and more over complicated as you go.

I just don't think the game is fun, personally. But I also don't think Skyrim is fun. I'm not really into most open world games. I wish they would make us a new one more in the style of Ocarina and Twilight Princess, but it seems like we're in the minority

The first 2 seasons were fun and interesting. But they lost me after that.
