  • I have seen the word Tankies a ton since I joined Lemmy, but it seems like people use it for almost anybody that is political at all, lol. Is the definition of it that google gives accurate?

  • Some kind of easy notification system and panel/dock/taskbar notification emblems. The support for stuff like that is incredibly spotty right now and is one of the final things preventing me from switching off windows.

EDIT: Have found a decent solution to this via Dash to Panel. I have been running Zorin OS for over the last month now on my main PCs!

  • I am surprised I haven't seen Kavita show up here yet! It's a very nice self hosted ebook/manga/comic reading server that you can access from a web browser on any device. It's really matured over the years.

I have a few thousand novels in there and really like being able to hop between devices while keeping my spot in a book.

  • While im from the early "Not much in life needs manual calculation, and if it does we already have a calculator on us at all times" generation haha.

Honestly, I could work harder on practicing mental calculations even now, but I see vastly more value in continuing my learning of technology to improve my career and hobbies.

  • To be fair, I dont think the people growing up with calculators in class and using chat gpt will be using cash at all. Not sure the last time I have even held physical currency, honestly. While your splitting a bill part might remain, we dont really need to worry about calculating change anymore.

  • The main problem I have with that 300-mile range is in winter. 500 km of range in Canada would be enough for my purposes, but when winter hits and that range is massively decreased, it wouldn't quite be enough anymore. With winter being basically half the year here in Ontario, it's a huge downside.

  • I can't help with music specifically, but for audiobooks, I have found that nothing can beat AudiobookShelf. It is a self hosted service much like plex and jellyfin, but it is made specifically for audio books.

It was such a huge improvement to the way I listened to my audiobook files that I wish I had found it sooner.

  • That is actually dependent on what you are doing. With gigabit ethernet being full duplex, you can transfer 1Gb/s both up and down at the same time.

This would mean that if he has a single port, if he was downloading a file from the internet, he could still reach 1Gb/s. If he, however, had 1Gb up and down, he could only download at 500Mb/s and upload at 500Mb/s simultaneously.

His upload being so much lower than his download would lead to him not likely noticing any difference.
