  • This, especially if you’re like me and reply to other people mostly. I often respond to some of the top comments/interesting comments because I enjoy talking to people and “piggy backing” absolutely can net you insane karma. The key is getting in on popular threads early and piggy backing on a top comment. My account I killed when they killed Apollo was well into the hundreds of thousands of comment karma

  • I was an ultra early Reddit user, frankly it’s incredibly simple, money. Several years back Reddit really started blowing up internationally and we stopped the nerd shit several years before that, no more “because reasons” or “the condoms are under the sink” silly in-jokes, or recognizable friendly power users, I was a lesser power user but hit the front page several times. It becoming international was a little bumpy cause the grammar Nazis we’re struggling with non American users and other culture type things but in general redditors were gracious and accepted people who weren’t English as first language users. When Aaron Swartz was outed and subsequently killed himself I think it was really the beginning of the end. Once Aaron was gone, once the Trump subreddits started being pumped by Russian troll farms and the final nail in the coffin, going public for bigger profit there was no going back. They sold out to political interests then sold out for money. Greed for money and power killed Reddit. All that said, Lemmy is a lot more quiet, obviously but it feels like the Reddit from ~20 years ago and I’ve been really enjoying it.

My instance is being closed so hopefully I can find a new home here I enjoy as much, that’s the biggest downside I’ve seen so far, you can essentially just lose your account due to others.

  • One of those flip boards for folding shirts, especially if you’re adhd, it makes it so you can neatly fold them and still see the front of the shirt so no more unfolding a bunch of things to check if it’s what you want and then just get left there unfolded

  • From a science perspective only meds really work for “treatment” but if you’re looking to simply make some sense of the chaos and not actually treat your symptoms there’s lots of options. My mantra is simply “motivation isn’t required” when I need to do something, being a parent really forced me to face this head on because just opting out on your kids because “you don’t feel like it” isn’t an option to good parents and the more you push through the easier it gets, in my experience, for me it was more about building discomfort tolerance than anything

  • I don’t have an answer for you but as a straight woman I’m always really taken aback by “the other F word” I’ve defended many of my gay friends from this slur after they told me they were uncomfortable or simply confronted people about using it in my presence and while I also get the “taking back your power angle” I think it’s more a thing you should do with friends you know well enough to know they’re ok with it because lots of people do find it offensive and I know straight allies like myself will absolutely not be comfortable with it, even if I just assume you’re a self hating gay or an edgelord because I’ve spent a lot of energy over the years fighting that word

    Just my 2¢

  • Stephen Miller is on a war path right now over this I’m sure. Where is the attention shifting to is my question, Miller has had many screaming meltdowns about our need to deport thousands of people every day so how do they meet this asinine quota if they’re “shifting their focus” away? They’re going to get those numbers some how

  • I don’t know if people like him or not but I find all of John Ham’s performances to be really similar. Even when playing a villain in Baby Driver he sucked, no one believes this milquetoast man who’s delivering a completely flat performance is some bad ass tough guy, granted all the “villains” except spacey were absolutely terrible and cliche in an otherwise fun and good movie.

He’s just really boring, really flat, he’s never made me feel or think anything he’s always “John Ham” regardless of the role he’s in

  • I’m confused why you would lose your license for being hit by someone else, that only happens if you are the one who caused the accident and were negligent enough that it was an unreasonable accident.

That said I do believe driving is a basic skill, in an emergency knowing how to drive can be critical, it can be life or death and not being able to transport yourself or others can have very serious consequences. Independence is another issue, you want to rely on other people to do nearly anything for the rest of your life? Unless you live in a large city with good public transportation (and plan to for the rest of your life) giving up the ability to drive will absolutely cripple your personal development in the long term, you remain a child reliant on those around you and it’s really not cute once you’re 40 and still begging to hitch rides.

I don’t think think you need to be driving all the time but you absolutely should know how and be familiar incase you ever do need to respond to an emergency or you end up in an abusive situation. Choosing to remain dependent serves no one. Find a better driving school, ask your boyfriend to practice with you, drive in big empty parking lots or low speed roads, you’re literally in control of the car wether you feel like it or not and building confidence and getting some experience will help your feelings match reality

  • My very first thought was about Luigi and thinking if this guy is found alive he likely won’t have any serious response. It seems they have a suspect but the dude was clearly wearing a mask so idk how they determined that
