So, I'm supposed to believe that working class people care about policy and that's why they abandoned Democrats.

And because they care so much about pro-worker policy they voted for Trump?

Our system was designed to not be fixable.

My only solace is that he'll take part in the insane suffering that's coming.

I'm in the same boat. I'm a white straight guy. So, I guess I'm not in immediate danger, although I am an academic. So, I guess my choices are: fight, flee or essentially hide.

Fighting seems infeasible although I think violence is justifiable.

Fleeing would require leaving the country. I dunno if I can swing that.

So....I guess I just live my life and hope it's not quite as bad as I fear? I dunno. I'm open to advice.

I do now hate this country and the bulk of the people who live here. Fuck them.

The contentiousness is what put killing the filibuster on the table. In less contentious times, we didn't need to destroy basic political norms just to save people's lives.

It takes basically no effort to vote. Things are clearly better with Harris winning than Trump.

Win the WH, win both houses of Congress, blow up the filibuster and enact national protections for abortion.

Will it work? Probably not. It definitely won't happen if Trump wins, though.

Plus if Trump wins, Alito and Thomas retire and get replaced by 25 year old fascists and things get even worse for decades.

Sure, but I wouldn't have my kid work on a farm or in a quarry. Ideally you get an internship in college or something. Maybe bag groceries.

Difficult manual labor isn't an entry point into any fulfilling career I can think of, but different strokes.

If you want an economy where every citizen has a chance to be middle class, you have to find some other source of labor to do working class jobs. That's why we shouldn't even want American citizens to do these jobs. Bring in immigrants that get paid well relative to where they came from to do that stuff and send our citizens to school and do middle class work. It's a win-win for all involved.

That's not even mentioning our problem with an aging population that requires immigration to sustain social programs.
