  • If it's not a 32hr workweek, I don't wanna hear about it. There are some jobs in tech on indeed that are advertising 4x10s, fuck that shit.

This article specifically states 4x32. So that's good. Should be in the title but I'm a pedant.

Everyone should, every job should be able to take advantage of this. Hire more people to compensate.

Billionaires don't want this, so I'm super pessimistic. But if we keep talking about it and pushing for it, maybe someday...

    Edit: 4x8 not 4x32...

  • We're not taking up space, we're the foundation. Produce and consume. Every time you go to work, and every time you buy something (no matter what it is), we're propping them up. Without us, they're nothing. The problem is, we ain't gonna do anything about it, cuz that would mean revolutionary organization which ain't gonna happen.

  • I find that communication is an underrated skill among software engineers

The problem, which is sometimes too common, is if they have too good communication skills combined with lacking technical skills. These are the ones that BS their way up the ladder, while screwing over the people that count on them, because their code sucks (the actual important part, for a SW engineer).

But yeah if you're both good technically and a communicator, you're pretty damn valuable. Personally, I'd be willing to muscle through terrible comm skills if the technical talent that matters was there.

  • Agreed, but you could spin it a number of ways. The "tough guy work ethic" cultural propaganda is to just go to work when sick. The fact that your not as productive when you feel shitty, well, the owners would have to actually care. Their argument is they'd probably prefer a sick employee only working at 70% their normal productivity, is better than letting them stay home.

The other much bigger thing is, how much money is over the counter meds industry profiting? Do they have lawyers and lobbyists? Is this profit entrenched in Wall Street investors and quarterly profits?

Which wins? Altruism for the worker bee, or rich peoples money and power?

  • What you're saying hits home.

Conservatives have this tough guy routine, that going to work when you're sick is just manly or "alpha". It's bullshit. Then they spread it so everyone else can get it.

But the tough thing to do, is go to work, after pumping yourself full of nyquil, or Tylenol, or whatever. It's just so stupid and obvious. They're so "tough" yet they need all this OTC junk to ease the symptoms. Not to mention, not being productive at work, cause you feel like shit. As well as taking longer to get better.

Personally, I prefer not to take any meds at all. Just go home, sleep a lot, drink water, eat soup, chill, rest, etc.

  • People need to upvote this for visibility, not disagreement. Seems like most of us agree, fuck no.

People need to see what BS is coming.

But then again I'm just assuming that's how lemmy works and if we downvote it will get lost.

  • Then you aren't expressing yourself very well.

    Agreed.

Copy/paste of my other comment, the gist of what im saying:

LGBT, woke, and immigrant issues are amplified by those in power to get more votes on the right, and distract from the most important issues: oligarchy and wealthy elites who are exploiting the poor and working class.

This doesn't mean these issues aren't important, they are. They're just used to distract from what's more important, and energize bigots who end up supporting the right.

Anti oligarchy and the billionaire exploitation should be the most amplified issues talking points. This, done correctly, might even get some support from outside the left (remember luigi?, glimpses of far left and far right joining together).

This doesn't mean throw minorities under the bus. It means switching priorities, to get power.

    Objective fact.
