  • Absolutely, this is really well said. I think because of the barrier to entry on this platform we are all a little more invested and I am here for it. I've hated what social media has become (Myspace was peak imo) and I'm so delighted the fediverse exists.

  • I'm insomnia scrolling and BAM this just made my night. I always wondered why they did drew them like that. It gives such a "yes Bartholomew I know what a lion looks like" vibe but then you have real life derps and it's amazing. Thanks for sharing!

  • My siblings in Satan, please don't give in to despair. This youngster has had a lot of support from his teachers, parents, community etc which has allowed him to achieve at this level. He worked hard and accomplished something amazing which deserves to be celebrated. But guess what? You have your own journey in life and maybe you don't have the same level of resources he has, and that's okay, you can still do and accomplish amazing things. Compare yourself to who you were yesterday and take it one step at a time. You've got this ✨🤗

  • You don't need elephants to smash ants. The Israeli government has gone too far, full stop. I also hope the hostages are returned home safely and a peaceful solution can be found. Calling out atrocities and war crimes perpetrated against the Palestinian people is not pro-hamas propaganda, it's the first step in accountability.

  • I love how so many of us former reddit lurkers found a home on Lemmy/the fediverse. I have absolutely loved being a part of the greater community here, I don't know how else to describe it but it feels like my Internet home. I love all you fellow nerds. Obligatory fuck spez.

  • You make a very well reasoned point, and I don't disagree with you. I can see why museum curators won't release antiquities because in your examples establishing provenance and actual logistics would be a nightmare. Not to mention the precedent of giving away some country's items but not others. But, at this point in time it's also a point of contention, rightfully so, that items obtained are still viewed as the property of the British museum in what amounts to a trophy case of imperialism. Ultimately we are in a period of growing pains as society and this is just another awkward period we have to get through to move forward.

  • I absolutely agree that there are some locations that are too volatile/corrupt to have items returned. I never would have thought to have equivalent items sent out of county for display, that would really drive the emotional point home.

  • On paper it sounds like a great idea, realistically the government needs to actually buy the property from them or at least a share of ownership otherwise it will be exactly the same with cable companies getting subsidies to "upgrade" infrastructure only to pocket the majority and leave the tax payers in the dark. I'm so over blackrock and their ilk screwing us over at every turn

  • This is the right answer, when using a stand mixer you want to keep the speed level low (after creaming the butter/sugar/milk) and scraping the sides down to ensure an even distribution of wets/drys. Chilling can help with maintaining a shape, but it's by no means mandatory. How did they taste? 😁
