  • I got a dollar that says he's signing off more formally to cement privatized social media as official communication channels. Remember when he got hammered for blurring the lines between POTUS and Dunald J Duck accounts?

  • The ~2010 runaway Toyota hysteria was ultimately blamed on mechanical problems less than half the time. Floor mats jamming the pedal, drivers mixing up gas/brake pedals in panic, downright lying to evade a speeding ticket, etc were cause for many cases.

Should a manufacturer be held accountable for legitimate flaws? Absolutely. Should drivers be absolved without the facts just because we don't like a company? I don't think so. But if Tesla has proof fsd was off, we'll know in a minute when they invade the driver's privacy and release driving events

  • If only there was a way to avoid the place where trains drive.

I checked first. They didn't make a turn into a crossing. It turned onto the tracks. Jalopnik says there's no official statement that it was actually driving under FSD(elusion) but if it was strictly under human driving (or FSD turned itself off after driving off) I guarantee Tesla will invade privacy and slander the driver by next day for the sake of court of public opinion

  • Wasn't the picture of 1970s Iranian women (dressed like US 1970s women) just floating around a couple months along with the attached comment stating "pictures of places before Muslim rule floating around means the US is about to bomb them" or does that just happen every year

  • "America is the best! Nobody could match our manufacturing!"

Well no, you were just the only hevay industrial country that wasn't bombed in the 40s. America didn't rocket ahead through the 60s, they just helped kneecap the competition.

And for the god damn 10th time, Mexico and China didn't take the manufacturing. They didn't raid the US and deport Ford to them. Ford walked it all over very politely.

  • Whenever I've seen that, it's usually in response to America taking the credit for saving the war despite "barely being there". On the other hand, you could say adding the American force weighed the odds into the allies' favor, so the swift end wouldn't have happened naturally . On the other foot, America wouldn't have built up enough arsenal to have that much effect had they not waited. And on your neighbor's hand, America seemed to sit idly as they watched nazis be nazis because no no, the guy has some valid points

  • I haven't looked I to the Air Force E-4B, but the Navy's E-6B has been spotted all over the US. Both are doomsday 747s. There's multiples of both. I don't know if it's actually been spotted on the ground much, though, as opposed to very high flyovers. But it sure feels a lot like the start of Escape from NY

  • I'd say I'm pretty knowledgeable on night time blinkies in the sky, having stargazed for a decade. Between binoculars and flight tracking sites, I got used to determining which blip on the map was in my view. Plus of course, I've seen thousands of satellite passes, hundreds of stars, and spotted planets hundreds of times.

I went drone hunting in that debacle. All I found was a bunch of clueless, paranoid people pointing to the sky and calling everything a drone. I absolutely believe the drones were real, somewhere, some time, but it was undoubtedly blown out of proportion. Of course the agencies couldn't verify all the reports, they were planes 20 miles away. EWR/JFK/LGA/PHL all throw planes in the air here. People who never stared into the starlit abyss before had no concept of typical plane characteristics, automatically eliminating their ability to gauge altitude and distance. Don't get me started on the people calling in every mini hobby drone as the same as the "car sized" drones. Like no, the CIA is not in your backyard. Not like that. Or the fucking "hologram" planes.

Funny how Trump promised to unveil the plot if elected, to the praise of the local MAGAts, all to... Forget about it? There was never any real substance to the volume claimed. The actual drones in question didn't need airspace clearance because they weren't in the category that required it.

My accepted theory is testing out of Picatinny. I do believe I unwittingly caught an earlier squadron, about a year prior to it blowing up. 4 craft, distinct 6500K white lights, staggered formation, and oddly quiet for their seeming altitude. I could only follow them for a mile before I ran out of road and I believe they turned. All I can say is they looked weird to me, which is what caught my attention. But that was it, one accidental glimpse. Not a single unexplained sighting after.

But that's my opinion as someone who believes the truth is still being misrepresented by my political allies.

  • I can't speak for big rigs, but I drive and ride multiple manuals. Synchro or not, there's no reason to double clutch an upshift in the cars under normal or high performance situations. It'd only make sense if I took too long to shift and had the engine rpm fall far below what matches the speed of the next gear. It's a drag race. They're burning synchros to drop 6krpm to 4k in the next gear in half a second. Even in normal driving, dropping 1000rpm or more is plenty of time to catch the next gear. 2 of my mini trucks have burnt synchros on one gear each (prior to my ownership), so I'm pretty well aware of how to time it for a smoother shift on the downfall. If double clutching was necessary on upshifts, I wouldn't be able to do gasless clutchless shifting. But I can

Downshifts, absolutely. There's plenty of reason to double clutch a downshift. The engine is, by definition, under spun for the next gear so yes, blipping it up will make it easier to drop a gear. Not needed for 1 gear at a time with good synchros, but certainly adds consistency when I do a 5>3 downshift to pass in the truck with a burnt 3rd. Almost required when I had braking problems and needed to downshift into 1st since the speed differential was far greater.

The source of the line form the movie is probably from the theatrical soundtrack from Bullitt. The engine sound was recorded separately from a GT40. The driver double clutched because it sounded mean.

Let's not forget the line comes from a scene in which granny shifting burnt the piston rings, dangered the manifold, made the floorboard fall off, and spilled a jar of o-rings.

I assume you used the wrong word towards the end. The flywheel is bolted to the crankshaft. If anything stops the flywheel, the engine is now turned off.
