  • LOLCats?

I'm thinking you have to go way back, something like lolcats, advice duck, ceiling cat, something where if you remove it from the equation meme culture just straight up does not develop, or does not develop the same way or at the same time.

  • My wife and I spotted your username and we have to wonder: are you aware of the character named Nougat from the game "I Was a Teenage Exocolonist"?

She is adorable, and if you are not familiar you should look at some of her scenes. Your day will be cuter.

  • Funny thing: Data's cat was played by a different cat in every or almost every appearance. None of them looked remotely alike.

Thus, my fan theory is that in the course of his career Data actually had a series of cats, all of them named Spot.

  • I wake up every morning happy my wife is there.

She snores like a wood chipper but I don't think I could sleep any other way.

I do sometimes wish she would warm her toes some other way, though. And give me back my hoodies.

  • Yes. Kes was artificially put into it and made a point of saying it happens only once.

As to them having a tendency to single births, I don't remember. There do seem to be few enough of them to indicate a population in decline, but...

If each couple can only have one child ever, their population would halve every generation, wouldn't it? That's... Isn't that wildly unsustainable, biologically?

I suppose they could represent an evolutionary dead-end...

  • The thought just occurred to me: they talk about it being a big deal that the Ocampa only live nine years and... We assume they mean nine Earth years. But they never actually establish how long an Ocampan year is. If they have an orbital period similar to, say, Saturn, she could easily outlive Tuvok while lamenting that she "only" gets nine years.

  • I don't mind the ones copying content from Reddit. I came here to get away from Reddit and I don't really mind seeing the content so long as I'm not giving spez and his fucks any clicks.

I do mind the ones posting links TO Reddit. I... came here to get away from Reddit. I don't need links back. I know where Reddit is...

  • "Escape from Childhood" by John Caldwell Holt.

Throughout my youth, I saw the unjust way that young people are treated in society. The exclusion, the other-ing, the infantilization. Everyone around me acted like it was normal, even right, to treat whole swaths of the population more like property than people, for no other crime than having not existed for an arbitrary number of days, regardless of actual ability, experience, knowledge...

This book made me feel more seen and understood, and less alone, than anything else I had ever read. Just knowing that literally anyone else had seen what I had seen and actually acknowledged it was moving in a way that's hard to describe.

I wish I had found it before I was already twenty years old, but what can you do?
