  • My hobby is genealogy. Almost every generation seems to have someone in the family that endured significant hardship but made it through. The most recent one I found was a young child burned to death in a barn fire. Others are kids orphaned by flu or other illness. I always find that one person that could have quit - but didn't. Americans seem to have a recessive resilient gene. It comes out only at dire need. This can give us great hope these days.

  • My concerns:

How do I know that someone with access to the list of members won't get bribed or blackmailed into sending it to the cops?

How do I know that this isn't just a front for cops?

A strike needs simple demands that can be met in short order. If they can't meet the demand, you can't end the strike. Demanding "Climate Action" is a non-starter.

Being composed of a large number of separate organizations makes a unified voice all but impossible. The message must be simple and consistent.

IMO, first step is enumerate the new order. A clear and concise foundational document of some kind. A new constitution? A set of amendments? A new Bill of Rights? Get to the core, don't just list grievances.

    • Set up my will.
    • Dispose of the accumulated cruft.
    • Get the house ready to sell.
    • Document all my accounts.
    • Move money as appropriate.
    • Provide for preservation/distribution of my genealogy research.
    • Work to prepare my friends and family for life without me.
  • My wife got some postal mail about unclaimed funds that looked bogus. After several repeats, we found out that it was due to her uncle passing away intestate.

My wife's already deceased father and him had mingled their finances. But another cousin had found out first and had already moved on cutting us out.

Fixing it has taken over a decade, but the estate finally closed last month. Our share total was around $350k. The thieving cousin probably got away with double that. But hey, a free windfall for retirement.

Unfortunately, I'm out of work so we're living off of that money now.
