  • The German city name Frankfurt isn't unique. That's why the cities often have an identifier. The biggest and most well known Frankfurt is located at the river Main and therefore called Frankfurt (Main). Main is also used as description in programming which is where the rest of the joke is coming from.

  • In my city people often stand with bikes out strollers in the door area. Or sometimes it's just really packed. When the opening side is announced, those that stand in the way can already make way (if they are considerate to their fellows) or know that they can relax and don't need to move.

  • I scan over the descriptions to check for irregularities or significant identifiers. So your yellow lake would be noteworthy to me or if a person is described with long hair. I don't mentally imagine a long hair person, but I try to remember it, so if later somebody sees a long haired person in the distance I know which character is referenced.

And yes if I don't recognise anything noteworthy, I don't make a mental note, it's just a normal lake, nothing important to remember.

But that isn't always working out for me. In Neverwhere the Marquis de Carabas is described as being pitch black. Which I fully didn't get and so was wondering why all the fan art made him so black that you can't recognise features. Because that was how he was described and I missed that important fact.

  • Considering your username I give you a pass, but still:

There have been many debates about the differentiation between vegetables and fruits. Genetic testing has mostly revealed it to be a human made distinction without any biological basis.

But I think your comment is the first time I see somebody trying to argue that pasta are vegetables.

  • Nah, notice how Foursome AND Fivesome have that F in there? Right in the beginning of the word. If you squint you can even saw that it is bold.

So OP is perfectly right while you are going confidently incorrect.

  • I couldn't find reviews. What I did find was a 5 star based rating system which is not the same thing at all. With steam reviews the text is more relevant to me than if they did or did not recommend the game.

  • I don't think so, because If I remember correctly:

When Bungie was bought by Sony, they specifically included in the contract that they get to make a Marathon game if Destiny 2 reaches certain goals. So they aimed for a marathon game for a long time and specifically included that in the negotiations. Beats me why they would do such a poor multiplayer take on the SINGLEPLAYER franchise that is fondly remembered by fans.

  • Gemma is wrong. Or at least I have never heard it as one combined word. As the examples themselves show, it is normally used as adjective+noun. And while you can combine it, I have never seen that till now.

And to OPs question: I don't know any such word in the German language. It might be a regional thing or it might just be something Vonnegut invented himself.

  • Thanks for the post, I always enjoy reading about people finding the real life inspirations of stories. And your pictures definitely invoked memories of Arcadia Bay bubbling up again. =D

  • It's not about information being free it's about who this information is being credited to.

If I tell you I had the best idea ever and should be rewarded for it, it definitely matters if I just heard my neighbours talking and repeat what they thought of.
