  • "The European Commission went on to point out that Safari's functionality and underlying technologies are near-identical across platforms. The Commission even highlights Apple's own marketing materials for its Continuity feature, which appear to contradict the company's claims, touting the tag line "Same Safari. Different device." As a result, the Commission rejected Apple's claim and insists that "Safari qualifies as a single web browser, irrespective of the device through which that service is accessed.""

    Chef's Kiss

Governments and stately instances so rarely have a proper grasp of technology. This is beautiful.

  • The Room is fantastic, but it's so bad.

I fell into a rabbit hole of watching bad movies some years ago, starting with the room. I sat through The Room, Sharknado, Rubber, Attack of the Killer Tomato, Birdemic, and then found all of Syfy's weird "Giant X vs. Mega Y" movies.

The Room is fantastic at being a terrible movie. It's bad, but it's also immensely enjoyable. It has terrible humor that doesn't work, no acting of any kind, weird pictures of spoons, actors getting swapped out half way through. It shouldn't work, but somehow it does.

I quickly realised that while The Room is terrible, there are far worse films out there. Some are hilariously bad, some are cringely bad, and some are just straight up bad.

  • Yes, but who has the most famous seafood culture? Scandinavia or japan?

We're famous for eating a lot of fish, but not for high quality of it. Japan treats it's tuna like texas treats it's cattle.

We mass fish salmon, cod and plaice and sell it to the rest of Europe at dumping prices.

Japan has good fish, we have lots of fish.

  • That's the point.

Veganism, as far as I can tell, is not so much about not consuming animal products as it is about not consuming anything that causes harm to animals.

By that logic, you would keep your child on breast milk as long as possible, to avoid having to switch to cow milk or formula.

  • The same goes for a lot of big-name software.

They know you're pirating their software. Almost everything phones home, whether you pirate it or not. Unless the ping comes from a MAC address of a machine bought by a company, they don't care.

  • My family and I took the train from Copenhagen, Denmark to Bologna, Italy and back again this summer.

By and large it was a good experience. Taking the train through the alps is something I'll never forget.

To my great amazement, the trains in Italy ran smoother than the trains in Germany.

On our return trip, we zipped from Bologna to Milano and from there to Frankfurt in just under nine hours. Smooth sailing. The Frecciarossa was by far the nicest train I've ever been on.

Frankfurt to Copenhagen, a noticeably shorter distance, ended up taking fifteen hours. Our 7:14 train out of Frankfurt Central got moved to another station a mere fifteen minutes prior to departure. From there, everything devolved into a mess of missed trains and lack of communication. I think we ended up switching trains five or six times.

Deutsche Bahn is a shadow of its former self, and it makes me profoundly sad that a nation globally known for precision and efficiency has such terrible train service.

  • Off the top of my head:

    Changes fall into two categories:

    1. Rule Tweaks
    2. New mini-systems.

    Under 1:

    • Shove is not a part of the attack action. It is a bonus action available to all characters. Shove only pushes the target back an amount that depends on the shover's strength and the target's weight. It normally does not knock them prone unless they are shoved off a high ledge.
    • Weapons are given unique weapon action attacks depending on the weapon type. These can be used once per short rest only if the wielder is proficient with the weapon.
    • Removed the requirement that attacks must be made using Strength to activate the benefits of Rage.
    • Removed the requirement that attacks must be made using Strength to activate the benefits of Reckless Attack.
    • Fast Hands simply gives you an additional Bonus Action with no restrictions.
    • Haste simple gives you an additional Action with no restrictions
    • Consuming a potion is only a bonus action.
    • If a creature throws a healing potion as an action, it will break and heal all targets in a small radius.

    Under 2:

Numerous weapons and items have systems attached to them that create or consumes various "charges" to add additional effects

As an example, weapons and items with the "spark" ability builds Lightning Charges in the wielder when certain criteria are fulfilled.

If 5 Lightning Charges are built up, the next instance of damage done with an attack role inflicts an additional 1d8 Lightning Damage.

There are many more. See Here and Here

  • Not at all surprised.

This bit got me: Evidently, all of Epic Games' business had been "heavily funded by Fortnite" in the last six years, and different parts of the company became "disconnected" from their revenue streams.

...Did you not see this coming? Have you really not had a plan for when Fortnite started to lose momentum? I get that having a product blow up will leaf to a period of manic spending because your cash flow suddenly feels infinite, but come on. You're not a small player in this, Epic. You've been around since the 90s. You know better than to mindlessly ride the wave of a success.

Of course the Fortnite money was going to run out. That's why you invested so heavily in UE5, right?.. Right?
