that's an interesting idea. would they have to compile individual versions for the testers? will it work after final release and people stop having NDAs and can compare several copies with each other?
Are your talking about the ibm version? I liked it and it was great for work because it could really multitask. I had a pretty good system though so no really long boots. my issue was that it couldn't handle any gaming, so back to dos for me as well. crazy that it's been all these years with windows, some good some bad, and now windows is shooting itself in the foot just as Linux is becoming a system that can finally handle anything.
my understanding is not so much altitude as the density of what's pulling you, as in the ground below you. like if your at the top of a granite mountain it may have more pull than if you're on the ocean. if you search for gravity anomaly maps you can see what I'm getting at. of course the farther you are from something the less pull it has though so I get your altitude point but unless you're in a hot air balloon weighing rice I don't know how altitude would matter. not that there is a big enough difference for weight vs mass to ever matter with rice.
I've always attributed that to incompetence. maybe that's due to working with some people who made some labels though. they weren't very sharp. large chains should be able to centralize and standardize it by now though.
