  • Not that I want to defend Elon or anything... But it's an X. The second most simple character in the alphabet. What are you expecting from an X? How much should one pay for one X?

  • Instances like that that really want to stay closed off to the general public, really should have the option to not show all of their content to all of the Fediverse. It's true that what they do on their instance is their business, after all that's why they have an entire instance and not just a community on a random server.

But that post being posted all over the network, especially with the admin behaving so... Well you've seen it, no need to call names, obviously attracts attention.

I have to say tho, the other admin has a point. Body shaming of skinny people is absolutely normalised and rarely anyone sees any issue with it. Recently, ageism is ramping up to absurd level as well. It's like other -isms are frowned upon now, so the society has found a new subject to pile upon. One would thing that the people of blahaj in particular would see the irony.

  • Don't remind us of that.

  • It was a funny year. Sony made a rootkit for music CDs. Blizzard made an invasive anticheat. So people started using the Sony rootkit to hide their cheat engines from the invasive anticheat.

  • On mobile web at least: above text field in the toolbar > 3 dots > green padlock pin icon "community"

  • Topless... really?

  • What solution would you propose, that only females of ages 13-18 need to cover their chests? Let them be. That's the whole point of this... Deregulation? That everyone can go topless regardless of what other people think.

  • Hah, okay. Saved for next weekend.

  • I admit I skimmed it at first, because even for sighted people text might be too long. As I mentioned, trimming is a useful thing (and I don't mean it snarky, even if it may seem that way).

However, I had given it a 2nd look and added an edit. Maybe the edit didn't federate to Mastodon tho, so here it is:

Also, for uses other than vision impairment, I think text should be elsewhere than alt-text. Like just description text or image metadata. Alt-text is for when you can't see the picture.

(Like on ye olde internet which you might have browsed with images disabled to speed up loading.)

So I do agree that alt-text should stay brief.

  • I generally try to use pictures outside of the movies... Like background pics or people dressed up. Maybe I'll find something about that scene, but I dunno...

  • Then that's probably the answer you're looking for. Who else is gonna give you a better answer?

I also think that makes quite sense. People with regular vision can just glance at a picture for half a second to get the idea of it, and move on. Having to spend a minute on every illustrative pic, no matter how unimportant, sounds more annoying than missing out on an extra layer of information. (Most of the time.)

I used to be a journalist and I've learned you can trim a helluva lot of information without really losing much. It's a generally useful skill since time is limited for all of us.

  • Why is every comment just about the US? Skin color, school shooter drills, actor president, support for Russians by US politicians...

    Lemmy try something more international:

France and Germany have founded the European Union.

First Japan, and now China (and Taiwan) and Korea are the technological superpowers.

Car industry in the UK basically doesn't exist anymore.

Cuba is still communist af and yet looks like a chill place.

Czechoslovakia has split. (Funny how even 30 years after the fact some people don't believe it, so I can imagine it being inconceivable before.)

    There are 8 billon people.

We still don't have nuclear-powered flying cars.

  • Looks like you're winning this round. Do you wish to pick/provide a picture for next weekend?

  • Dope. Now I kinda want all my icons in this Vanced Light style...

  • Pretty cute. I'd like the Vanced ones without the circle, just transparent.

Well either way, now the Jerboa icon looks out of place in my folder of Lemmy stuff since everything else is uglier.

  • Especially shower thoughts. I'd love to follow that thing again, but the stream of "oooh Lemmy is so nice" posts made me unsub. If you like Lemmy so much, why don't you learn where to post. Communities have their purposes.

  • Make an account in a bank/service that lets you generate and use single-use cards. Revolut comes to mind (I have a referral code too, wink wink), people also use a service I forgot the name of. Privacy-something. They used to sponsor a lot lf YTubers, but now I use SponsorBlock so I don't remember.
