  • I've not played it but it does indeed sound terrible. I didn't even like OoT all that much though, even though it's been hyped to oblivion.

  • There's never more than one pinned post at a time. I know there are some federation issues about pinning, which is why I or other mod from lw pins and unpins posts. If you still see old pinned posts, talk to the admin of your instance.

  • Today is the last day.

  • Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron on the DS

  • In lots of places other people do the compilation and thus guarantee the build, like in Linux distros or F-Droid.

  • If it's difficult, you can always a) minimise the stuff/amount you're asking for (asking someone to visit isn't even asking for help), b) come up with something to trade, i.e. what you can do for them in return or later.

Not saying it's the best approach, but it's a way to break through the hardest mental barrier.

  • Microsoft is using malware-like Windows 11

    Removed fluff

  • I always get paranoid when I notice an app I use having unusual updates.

Example: The gallery app for Android I use, F-Stop, used to post infrequent updates with changelog only stating "stability updates" and such, or nothing. Then a few months ago they started posting quite major feature updates with detailed log. I freaked out if they weren't bought up or something, so I stopped updating and just watched for a few months. So far so good.

But ya know, moral of the story - use open source whenever possible. FOSS community is very vigilant and vocal about such things. It's not bulletproof, but there's a much better peace of mind with foss apps, it's quite crazy.

The proprietary app stores claim how their corporate bullshit is the only secure way to get reliable apps, while in reality it's the exact opposite.

  • There was a time where I could to some degree. I had a good bed I guess.

There was one dream where I didn't like it and decided to both check if it's a dream and to wake up. So I pinched myself... It didn't work. The cartoons have been lying to us!

  • Ah yea I don't know why I didn't see them before when I installed it... Weird. Thx

  • Lovely, but no widget support... Is there any foss weather app with good widget selection? I tried a bunch from F-Droid a while ago and didn't find any.

  • For browsing, best use a browser with adblocking included, as that's faster than using external apps. Browser can eliminate the calls right at source, while an external app can only intercept them.

Mull (Firefox fork) with uBlock Origin is the gold standard, or Cromite (ex Bromite) for Chromium fork.

  • Ok sir, only what you say is important is actually important. Got it. Bye.

  • Right, so when we're saying that it was wrong of the company that sells their products on the promise of sustainability and compatibility, to remove their headphones jack and sell shitty ewaste earbuds instead, we're totally saying that every phone in the world needs a headphone jack.

Also funny how quickly we went from "you can get headphones with AAA batteries" to "use a dongle".

If only there was some simple solution that has worked for decades, has zero downsides and costs almost nothing to implement. If only!

  • It works differently on top/day, and top/6 or 12 hours have other differences still, like how they handle showing seen posts and such. It's not consistent so you can hardly say what is expected. I'm not filing bugs because it's not the end of the world and devs have other things to do, but yea it is odd.

  • Sometimes it starts loading more when I scroll some way up and then back down. My guess is, the app is very prone to "network errors" and when it encounters one while scrolling, it gives up.

It's not the only app or website with this problem... Damn scripts.

But I think there's also something about Lemmy here. For example, when browsing "top/hour" posts, at some point it stops loading as if there's a hard limit.

  • Well tell that to Fairphone, they're only selling shitty e-waste ones instead of providing a headphone jack.

But do let me know who is making in-ear earphones with a removable battery. Not massive over the head cows. Portable earphones.

  • The phone has a removable battery. Not one that you need to break the device apart and unsolder everything to get to it, like almost all headphones.

    • you open your code under a licence that means other people can use it, that means other people can use it
    • reporting a bug is not demanding free labor

Like how do you think this is supposed to work?

    A) That everyone who wants to use open source stuff needs to be a programmer and contribute?

    B) That if someone posts code under GPL or some other licence permitting commercial use, that it's not permitting commercial use anyway?

    C) That you need to pay to report a bug?

Come on. If the dev wants to only fix particular things and wants payment for fixing other things, fine, but don't say this is the only way foss should work.
