  • are you under the impression that political opinions don't constitute bias? Or maybe you think political opinions don't affect how we view news? I'd disagree with both statements

  • again, you're not neutral yourself. You're just failing to identify your own biases.

Im pretty sure you were the guy right wing trolling in fact, because I viewed your history when you put yourself up for agora mod. but you seem to have a new account or have cleared some of it.

  • Thats fine but your bias will be tested with what you allow to stay up. Will you allow news from sources rated as extreme - will it depend on if its extreme left or extreme right? Will you allow reposts of stories that spark outrage in the cases it sparks outrage you like, but take down stories that spark outrage you dont like? Will you even notice if you're moderating and locking threads that spark your political adversaries outrage, but participating in threads that spark your political allies outrage?

If you're serious about trying to be neutral I suggest you look for someone somewhat ideologically opposed to you to create that balance in the space.

The nice thing about lemmy is that whatever happens, the world news instance that manages to exorcise obvious bs and propaganda the best will hopefully flourish.

  • all news has bias and the fact that you feel you can create a non-biased world news on your own just shows how unqualified you are. To even get close you'd need multiple people with different biases.

You are not some perfect judge of neutrality. Far from.

  • he seems to have nuked his antivax posts that I saw before. Or are there 2 people named blackconservative shitposting here?

I also like how the link to 'votes mean nothing' text is just a link to his own post.

That being said, this person isn't necessarily wrong about the proposed voting method in agora being easy to manipulate. Unless we have a specific strategy to excluding bot votes, there will be bots.

  • I know typescript but not rust. Ive been hearing a lot of chatter about Matrix - do I install and join a server to get plugged into the dev community for lemmy? Or where should I be hanging out to get an idea of what needs to be done? Github?

  • Thanks for posting this. You've summed my concerns well. I've been active on agora (though mostly I have been posting in the logo topic) - but I've been doing it out a sense of needing the balance out the more motivated 'HOA' type users, who seems to be brigading around to an extent.

I really like all of your ideas but especially the voting needs to be done by comment upvotes or polls, instead of a chain of 'ayes' and 'nays' - and the votes needs to have clear rules about how long they run.

I get the sense that these things may be set after agora mods are in place. Thats just my assumption.

I also really think the agora community SHOULD NOT be able to target specific communities for defederation. Instead we should articulate rules that federated communties must adhere to, and auto defederate from communinities that are shown to break them. People aren't going to want to wait a month to be defederated from a gore instance or something like that.

The process is way too witch hunty as it is. It got very toxic very fast.

  • I clear my mind of the concept of a backlog, and embrace the idea that games are for my entertainment - thus if I am not currently feeling entertained, I can put the game down and not play it without guilt.

    TL:DR; There is no backlog.

  • The title led me to think this might be about how the english language is uniquely bad at programming language since its pretty imprecise. But it's more about how an ai language model, and ai in general, is poorly suited to dealing with and parsing business requirements from execs.

    Which, fair enough I agree.

  • it tipped into satire for me when they mentioned the intern wasn't even paid. please be satire

  • I sort of feel that way about the things most consultants spit out during their 'big vision' moments. They seem like modern equivalent of seers paid to make the CEOS (kings) believe they can predict the future.
