Nah I have the same opinion of the catholic church that I have of cops.
It takes effort to maintain that much corruption. The whole organization is implicit.
Comparing a bank teller to a companies misdeeds is backwards. That is someone at the bottom of the pyramid. In the church, those at the top of pyramid where the ones who covered up and moved pedophiles around, FOR DECADES. So, thats a rotten organization.

And when you have an whole organization covering up for pedos, you might as well just consider everyone in the organization a pedo.
The very nature of the catholic church (looking for adult men who will 'be celibate,' excluding women altogether) may be attractive to pedophiles in fact.

I don't know exactly what voting single issue for representation means. To me it sounds like voting for women and people of color believing they will be more sympathetic to our causes, but then I see people like Kyrsten Sinema, Clarence Thomas and I think - that shit don't work. But maybe that isn't what you mean. (also, not that I don't vote for women and POC, but I don't vote for them BECAUSE of that anymore, integrity, knowing their incentives, and actions are all I care about)
Now I think of the whole thing as a system and I seek to put in place incentives that push the representatives to fight for our approval. Right now we fight for their attention. If there's 5, 6, 7 viable political parties and few barriers to entry, any time they get off the rails into lala land we can vote for whoever is choosing to make sense that cycle. With 2 parties, extremism is incentivized.
I am moderating a whole damn community. I never reached this level on reddit. I still touch grass I swear. Also its a tiny community that no one really interacts with but me

Here's my American Healthcare story:
- snap finger bone, go to urgent care to get splint
- pay 50ish dollars that day
- 2 months later, get bill for 200 dollars
- ahah! everyone says to ask for an itemized bill! do that
- get itemized bill back that claims the 200 charge is for 'visiting with a doctor with knowledge of medical history' (paraphrasing)
- contest charge because I did not see a doctor, and splinting a snapped finger does not require any fucking context at all
- get runaround for 2 months, while being threatened with late fees
- finally they say they will adjust the bill
- get new bill for $201, 'for a visit that did not include a doctor' (no fucking joke)
welcome the USA, where healthcare operations are scams
(these are just 2 of the scams in my state, thanks to shell companies when one is shut, another opens)
edit: and in case anyone thinks I paid that shit, I didn't. I sent them a polite version of a 'fuck you' reply. Then covid hit and I never heard from them again.
You can dismantle the duopoly without collapse. Some people are working on it already.
Historically collapse doesn't lead to utopia. Sometimes economic decline turns societies to fascism.
But no one will seriously confront it until there's competition from other parties, you can't have real competition for votes in a 2 party system.
More parties can be viable if the USA can shake off FPTP voting. Some states have already.

Gen X: Entering into adulthood expecting the best, gets fucked by low paying jobs & runaway housing and healthcare costs
Millennials: Entering into adulthood with some worries but paid all that money for college to prevent getting fucked by all that stuff Gen X got fucked by, gets fucked by all that stuff + student loans
Zoomers: Entering into adulthood with record anxiety and depression, no idea what strategy they are going to try to use to avoid all this but I hope it's eat the rich
Seems like it was a mix between usenet being a magnet for piracy, which all the ISPs were getting pressure to combat, and demand for usenet cratering - as newer users came on the internet they went to other places (myspace had started which appealed more to young users)
For me mastadon didn't 'stick' but I was never a big twitter user. So I failed to jump from from the big social networks to mastadon because the experience was weird. I guess you can follow lemmy communties but I had no idea how to find them and it mostly looked like following other people like on twitter.
Whereas the UI and everything on lemmy is much more like what Im used to it (reddit) - so it 'stuck' for me.
I still have the mastadon account collecting dust and might go back over there now that I understand more, but as I prefer to follow subjects over people I dont feel like Im missing out
Not necessarily talking about you, although WEIRD that you're agnostic but jumped to defend the clergy and also believe abortion is murder just based on your own personal beliefs with zero evidence, and you're willing to enforce that view on others at the cost of their life.

yeah but most anti-abortion people pair it with being anti-sex-education, sometimes even anti-conctraception - you know, the thing which actually reduces the need for abortions
so they set a trap for their kids to walk into, and act shocked when people get pregnant young, and then force them into having children before they can self-actualize which is what they actually wanted anyways.
also the bible gives directions for giving abortions. These people are worshipping the GOP instead of GOD

So you know, from a child victim's point of view there is no fucking difference between supporting pedophiles and covering up for them. You cannot cover up for a pedo without supporting them. Intentions do not fucking matter, actions do. Almost everyone has good intentions.
