I've also heard it described by the Puzzle in a Thunderstorm gang as someone being so blind and unwilling to acknowledge their privilege that they claim everything good that happens to them is literal magic. Their problems can be solved by social safety nets and coincidence, but get attributed to their "positive thinking" altering the fabric of reality to benefit them.
Fair enough. I was just thinking of more "high level" stuff that's easier to disassociate from simple physical mechanics of cells and stuff. Trying to avoid the low hanging fruit in my examples, and all that.
I try to avoid being conspiracy minded, but I can't help but wonder why. Does the US have some sort of wartime ally obligation or something? Is there a nuclear risk or treat to the other side winning? What is going on?
We might never know.
And for the record, you can criticize a political party or government without thinking the citizens or their cultural identities are bad. It's maddening that people have to be reminded of this. My country does bad shit, but I don't think every person I meet is evil.
I never cared for the guy, but I voted for him because it clearly was the better choice at time. It might be all for popularity, but that doesn't change the fact that his administration has been making some good strides he toward fixing our broken system.
I'll take good things done with ulterior motives over bad things done for their own sake, every day.
I mean, marketing is bullshit, so I don't blame people for not caring about product names.
I've had "fire hot" and "thermonuclear" hot sauces that were barely hot.
I've had "unlimited" data plans that were limited.
I've had cereal that's "part of a balanced breakfast", but only if you eat half a dry cup in skim milk with no other sugar in your meal.
People are used to marketing lying to them about everything. Not saying they shouldn't pay attention, but not gonna blame them for assuming the name of a drink is just bullshit.
I'm autistic. I always apparently seem weird to people. That means any time I use a self checkout, the minders stare at me because they think I'm about to steal something. It makes me nervous, and I start getting uncomfortable and self conscious, which I'm sure makes me seem even more suspicious. And either security or the automated system have triggered the "please wait for an associate" so many times. But they always look at the video and tell me "Sorry, this thing is just sensitive/weird/whatever excuse.", then leave me alone.
I'm not going to call it discriminatory, because I don't think it is? But it feels like I have to be on my best behavior or I'll get arrested because I was so focused on trying to pass as "normal" that I missed scanning a tomato. And for the record, I've never stolen anything, even when I was low on food and really needed some stuff I couldn't afford. Hell, I have forgotten to scan something once and went back in to pay for it.
Self checkout sucks, but it's normally still better than waiting in line and interacting face to face with a cashier.
I only have Linux on my machine, and have been an advocate for FOSS for many years. But even then I have to begrudgingly admit Windows does some things better. I don't see why anyone would get all bent out of shape about that. Yeah, evil corporation and massive privacy issues, but that doesn't change its technical merits.
What was it that people got upset over if you don't mind sharing?
When I first got VR, I played Skyrim on PS4. One morning, I woke up to pee and held my hands by my sides as if using an invisible controller to aim my movement and kind of glided across the floor. Realized what I was doing by the time I got to the door.
Despite how much I agree, I think there's one point worth driving home.
They ARE normal human beings. That's the entire problem. Normal human variety includes self centered pieces of shit as much as it includes selfless heros.
That's why voting and staying involved in politics matters. If you aren't constantly trying to keep these assholes out of power, you lose.
Don't fall for the comfortable lie that genocide and dictators are rare and "can't happen here". That's precisely how they end up happening.
Huh, kind of wish there was a column with a few words on why each one was blocked. Kind of curious about them, but don't want to get myself put on a list by visiting the wrong server, you know?
Thanks everyone for the server and service. It's appreciated. If I wasn't broke and jobless at the moment, I'd be happy to kick over some monthly money on Patreon or Kofi or whatever people are using these days.
