  • We need something in common for people to get along. Enemies are just very easy things to share between groups, but common creeds, ideals, projects are all unifiers of equal power (though they're not nearly as convenient to find...)

  • Part of the agreement presidents sign when they consent to USSS protection is that they are no longer allowed to drive themselves except in pre-approved, controlled situations. Thus, it's even more concerning he had to ask for permission, since this should have been cleared in the planning stages, long before he got to touch the car, and he should have known that already. Just more evidence that the trump team don't really know what they're doing.

  • I thought the "can't melt steel beams" thing stemmed from a supposed puddle of molten steel they found in the wreckage? If cascade failures are what they're on about, 9/11 truthers are even dumber than I thought :(

  • ... Yeah so, anyone seriously considering going into academia is aware of this. You're not bringing any new information to the masses here, you're just advertising the fact you don't understand why people go into academics.

  • With 500 mass shootings/year, that's a whole lot of mass casualty events happening every day here that we just dont hear about, I guess? Even if these are drivebys, thats a whole lot of people standing around in the street where it happens. Idk, without digging into the methodology of the study this seems pretty suspect.

  • These tariffs are already wildly unpopular in the US, the problem is that our government has been fully captured by the nazis and there's not much that can be done about it. Most people I know sre hoping that the international response will be harsh enough to spur meaningful change, though nobody really thinks that will happen.

  • I think that was their point, that the topic of trans rights/life/culture/whatever-you-want--to-call-it being auch a popular, contentious subject is driving them to dislike everyone involved. I can certainly understand how seeing a topic again and again when you don't personally care about it can engender (hehe) negative feelings. I don't really understand not caring about this, though. Maybe they just don't have any trans friends/relatives, and that lack of personal connection lets them remain aloof from the issue. Maybe they're just a jerk (doesn't seem like they are, though). Who knows.

  • Oh, yeah, that really does not look real. Like on its own this seems unlikely since there's been no talk about this until now, but wow that video just looks really, really fake.

Also it's apparently only ~4ft/130cm tall, which would make this less impressive even if all the promo media released about it is real, which seems... unlikely.

  • Sure, and there's a very important discussion to be had about the influence livestock has on the environment. But that's a separate topic from the usefulness of pasture land for alternate purposes.

  • Most pasture/grazing land simply isn't suitable for crop farming, which is why we use it for pasture. Be it because of water retention or lacking topsoil or whatever, it's often the case that the only feasible way to produce food from an area is livestock farming.
